Kenneth Cline Obituary

Feb. 28, 1920 - June 9, 2008
BREMEN - Dr. Kenneth "Kenny" Lamar Cline, 88, loving husband, devoted father and caregiver, died June 9, 2008, from the complications of cancer. He leaves a legacy as a humanitarian and his love with his descendants, relatives, professional colleagues and friends. Kenny Cline, son of Pearl and Oscar Cline, was born February 28, 1920, in Bremen, Indiana. He completed grade school in a one-room school house and graduated from Bremen High School in 1938. His initial college years were spent at Wabash College studying nuclear physics. He transferred to Indiana University to attend medical school. He was in an accelerated program and went from medical school to complete his internship at Grace Hospital in Detroit in 1944. During WWII Kenny was assigned to the U.S. Army recruiting center at Ft. Leavenworth. He was discharged from the Army as a captain. He returned to his roots in Indiana and started a country, family practice in Wyatt, Indiana, in 1948. From that time until he retired at 81, he served the community between Mishawaka and Bremen and was a member of the medical staff at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana. When he retired hundreds of his patients and colleagues came to Wyatt to say goodbye. He brought hundreds into this world, saved thousands and guided many through the final stages of their lives, never selfish, always giving. Kenny met his beautiful and loving wife, Betty Jane Logan, while in medical school. They were married on August 28th, 1944. He is survived by his wife; his children, Michael and wife, Jane in Las Vegas, Nevada, Betty and husband, Kurt in Michigan City, Indiana, Kathleen and husband, Frank in Mishawaka, Indiana, Elizabeth and husband, Paul in Lexington, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and a sister- and brothers-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services were held the morning of June 11th, and he was interred at the beautiful Lexington Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Mishawaka, Indiana, at a later date. Donations on behalf of Dr. Kenneth Cline may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502.

Uncle Kenny was the best uncle and "second dad." We shared in countless memories including happy times with the Blue Goose at Diamond Lake, diving for coins in the swimming pool, the crispy burnt hot dogs on the grill, and the multitude of long distance diagnoses over the phone. I sure will miss my kind uncle.
Love and prayers to you Kenneth L.
Love,
Joellen

I was deeply saddened to hear of Kenny's passing. What a warm an caring person he was with a great sense of humor. I feel honored to have been his friend and enjoyed all of the many times I spent with him and Betty. My deepest sympathy to all of the Cline family.
