OSCEOLA - Michael L. “Ziggie” Ziegert, 65, of Osceola, passed away on Saturday November 25, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born April 3, 1952 in Mishawaka to Ralph Louis “Bumpy” Ziegert & Gloria Joyce Boyer.
On December 24, 2004 in Goshen he married Deanne R. Foster. She survives along with his beloved furry best friend “Gizmo”, a son, Christopher (Jessica) Foster of Syracuse, IN; 3 grandchildren, Miles, Harley and Remy; half-brother, Benjamin (Renee) Bowman III of Melbourne, FL; 2 step brothers, John (Denise) Spagnola of South Bend, Albert (Deborah) Spagnola of Seattle, WA and a step sister, Debbie Christensen of South Bend. Also surviving are 2 nieces Dawn & Jayme Ziegert; his mother in law, Esther Yoder; 6 In-Laws, Rex Foster of Elkhart, Cheryl (Larry) Cloud of Jones, MI, Kimberly (Jim) Carney of Appleton, WI, Shayne (Karen) Miller, Rochelle (Rusty) Elliott both of Goshen, Rosina (Charlie) Heilman of Osceola; and many, many special friends including, Mark, Danny, Sam, Terry, Jack and Brian. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gregory Ziegert; a sister, Cheryl (Fred) Mark; a step sister, Linda Spagnola and his father in law, Richard Yoder.
“Ziggie” graduated in 1970 from Mishawaka High School and attended Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA.
He was a proud USMC veteran having served in Vietnam. “Ziggie” served from 1970- 1974 and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Osceola American Legion Post #308, an avid Notre Dame fan and he enjoyed fishing. He worked as a CNC machinist at Gunite Corporation in Elkhart for 20 years.
A celebration of life gathering for “Ziggie” will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Osceola American Legion Post #308. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Osceola American Legion. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his care.
