Neva Hull Obituary

Neva Rogers Hull

Feb. 12, 1922 - Sept. 7, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - Neva passed away peacefully in Napa, CA. She was born in Benton Harbor, MI to Glenn Rogers and Ruby Worrick. She married Clem Hull in 1941, and they moved to California, where he did important war work in Burbank. After the war they settled in South Bend, IN, where many family members remain today.

After her divorce in the 1970s, she earned a dual BA in Fine Arts and Theater at IU in South Bend. The rest of her life was devoted to various creative pursuits, (art, writing, and cooking) while also supporting herself and caring for her beloved cats.

In 1983 she moved to Oakland, CA where she was a columnist for the Piedmonter newspaper, reporting on local happenings on Piedmont Ave., where she lived. She worked with Tish Sommers and Laurie Shields in the early days of the Older Women's League. She also worked in the president's office at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. While there she got involved in helping feral cats on the grounds. She also worked in an attorney's office, an Oriental rug gallery, and a high end gift shop on Piedmont Ave. She entered and won many cooking contests, her most notable being a curried rice salad that she submitted to Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds. Known for her sense of humor, in her spare time she wrote about 20 zany cookbooks for family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Hull of Vacaville, CA; her son, Daryl of Carson City, NV; two granddaughters, Arielle and Sarah; three grandsons, Noah, Toby, and Sam, and numerous great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor.
