Ronnie and I grew up together. I do not recall that he ever uttered a harsh word. He was as true a friend as anyone could ever wish for; full of humor and gifted with deep common sense and a sweet disposition - qualities that never left him. Oh, how he will be missed.

As a cousin by marriage, I knew Ronnie well over 50 years. If you wanted to know the real scoop about anything concerning Notre Dame sports, he was the one to talk with, especially in the days when he would have Digger and the basketball team over for dinner. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always considered (along with Karen) to be an important part of the Gardner extended family.
