Terry Stephens Obituary

Nov. 8, 1942 - July 31, 2010
NILES - Terry M. Stephens, 67, passed away on Saturday in his home following an extended illness. Mr. Stephens was born on November 8, 1942, in South Bend, to Merle G. and Marjorie E. (Shank) Stephens. He graduated from Niles High School and had lived most of his life in Niles. Terry retired in 2005 after 40 years of service from the American Electric Power Company. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the United States Navy. He attended First Missionary Church in Niles. He was a former volunteer committeeman and coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He enjoyed traveling in the RV with friends throughout the United States. On April 10, 1962, in Benton Harbor, he married the former Kay E. Brant, who survives. He is also survived by their son, Thomas M. (Judith) Stephens of Stevensville; grandsons, Tyler (Vanessa) Stephens and Toby Stephens; granddaughter, Sarah Hess; six great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Leuellyn (Harold) Myers of Granger. He was preceded in death by their son, Tracy Stephens, who died in September 1981, and sister, Marcia Diane Stephens, who died in 1941. Funeral services for Terry M. Stepehens will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6, in Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with Rev. Mark A. Slabaugh of First Missionary Church in Niles officiating. Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Terry M. Stephens may be made to Hospice At Home or to the American Cancer Society.

Kay and Family
I was so sorry to learn about Terry's passing. I was on vacation and didn't find out until after the services. You have been steadfast in your care for Terry. GOD BLESS YOU for that. I have been there and I know that part was not easy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Terry will always be rememberd as a true and trusted friend along with his wife Kay during our 8 years in Niles and thereafter. Ron cherishes the memory coaching, with Terry & Ed Walker, the Niles 13 yr old Babe Ruth team to a Michigan State Championship. God Bless our friend.
