William Doty Obituary
MISHAWAKA - William H. Doty Sr., 89, of Mishawaka, passed away at 12:31 pm Saturday, September 1, 2012, in his home surrounded by family. Bill was born on May 24, 1923, in Mishawaka, the son of the late George and Frieda Doty. On February 28, 1946, he married Bertie "Abbie" Basham. She passed away on September 2, 2011 He is survived by three children, Bill (Patti) Doty Jr., Tom (Kathy) Doty Sr. and Kathy Doty Mahler; eight grandchildren, Tom (Katrina) Doty Jr., Rachel (Troy) Owen, Dan (Tara) Sharp, Todd (Kerry) Doty, Jill Doty, Kaley (Ryan) Carter, Becca Barnett and Carl Doty; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward N Doty and Charles (Joyce) Doty; and three sisters, Maxine Paine, Jane Judd and Dixie Anderson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Floyd; and two sisters, Evelyn Blicharz and Nancy Campbell. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army before becoming discharged in 1945. He was a member of VFW Post 360. After retirement they owned and operated 3D Campground in Grovertown, IN, for 15 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 pm Thursday, September 6, 2012, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Hospice, 5838 W. Brick Road, Suite 106 B, South Bend, IN 46628; or to the Alzhiemer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapelhillmemorial.com.

Bill has a very special place in my memory, as a mentor a long time ago it was Bill who encouraged me to further my education and pursue a career and not just a job. I owe a great deal of my success in life to his encouragement and 'gentle' prodding. A very special man who will be missed by all who knew him. Peace to the Doty family.
