William Gaffney Obituary

William “Pat” Gaffney

March 23, 1951 - August 3, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - William “Pat” Gaffney Jr., 67, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at Center for Hospice, South Bend, IN. Pat was born on March 23, 1951 to the late William P. and Lucille Marie (Sloman) Gaffney. He cherished his 3 dogs, Charlie and Sophie who preceded him in death, and Rusty who survives. He was very proud to be employed by the University of Notre Dame, where he worked in food service at the North Dining Hall for the last 20 years.

Pat lived an amazing life and he was an inspiration to his family and friends. He was a simple and generous person who just loved to stay in touch with everyone. If he couldn't get together with you he would call to check in and see how you were doing. He was the “glue” that kept everyone connected. One of his favorite things to do was to go to “The Skillet” Restaurant for a great meal and to see friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Pat is survived by his sister, Kathy Gaffney of South Bend, IN; brothers, Michael Gaffney of Mishawaka, IN and Kevin (Shaunda) Gaffney of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Pat will be on Wednesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm, at Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may gather with the family 2 hours prior to services (4:00 pm - 6:00 pm). Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Hi Patrick. Continue to rest well in Heaven. I still remember going for rides with you and sister Kathy in her red Mustang. You were well loved then as well as now. Pray for us here on Earth as we need it.

Rest well in Heaven Patrick.

Patrick was a great man, he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone, he cared about and loved everyone he knew. After my Mom had her first stroke, he would call me almost everyday, and the first thing he would ask me, was, how is your mom doing. I've always loved the way he cared for me and my family. I love him and he'll be missed. Rest In peace Patrick.

I wish to express my deepest condolences to the Gaffney family. Patrick (we called him Patrick in the neighborhood) will be sorely missed. He was always so friendly and stopped to talk with anyone he saw. His life was truly an inspiration and his love for his family showed through the stories he told of your times together.

It won't be the same around here without him. He was so special. God bless him and keep him.

To Pat's family, sorry for your loss. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope, may that bring you comfort at this difficult time.

On The Wing Of An Angel
On the wing of an angel
I sent God a prayer
To let Him know
You soon would be there
So He might greet you at heavens gate
For once He has called you
You don't want to be late
For I know it was sudden
You weren't ready to go
This much I can tell you
We already miss you so
The memories you left us
Will keep us strong
For one day we'll be with you
For heaven is called home
