George Hagan Obituary

George P. Hagan, age 71, of Brockton, died Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia (Donnelly) Hagan. George was born in Boston and raised in Roslindale, a son of the late Joseph and Rita (Chartier) Hagan, and had lived in Brockton for the past 33 years. A 1965 graduate of Charlestown High School, George served in the U.S. Army stationed in Phubai, Vietnam, with the 513th Maintenance Battalion. He had been a long time member of the American Legion, DAV Chapter 50, in Rockland, and was a volunteer in the Brockton VA Medical Center. George had been an employee of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for forty years and retired in 2015. George had been an assistant Scout Master for Troop 17 in Brockton and coached youth hockey. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed classic cars. Most importantly, he enjoyed time spent with his children. George will be remembered as a man with a big heart and a strong grip. He was always easy going and a straight shooter. His family was very important to him and he was beloved by his family. George was the father of Daniel Hagan and his wife Kristin of W. Roxbury, Anthony Hagan of Florida, Brandon Hagan of Brighton and Sean Hagan of Brockton and the grandfather of Nolan and Dylan Hagan. He also leaves his siblings, Constance Garland of Warwick, R.I., Holly Dixon of Dedham, Linda Hagan-Rule of Tupper Lake, N.Y., and Joseph Hagan of Foxboro; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, on Wednesday 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston. I'm so sad to learn of George's passing and extend my deepest condolences to the family. I'd known George for almost forty years as a fellow DFCI employee. George was always with a smile, a joke, and always made time to say hello. He was so hard working; I thought he'd never retire. We lost a good and caring man. May your happy memories of George comfort you in the days ahead. With heartfelt sympathy.
