Harold Cribben Obituary

Harold T. Cribben (retired BFD), age 88, of Brockton, died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, Saturday, March 22, 2014. He was the loving husband of Rita M. (Provost) Cribben for 64 years. Lifelong of Brockton, he was the son of the late Michael and Julia (Hunt) Cribben. Harold was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the European and Pacific Theatres. He was a proud member of the Brockton Fire Department and retired in 1991, after 33 years of service. Harold will be remembered for his love of his family, his quiet sense of humor and love of the Red Sox and Patriots. During his lifetime, Harold enjoyed bowling, golfing, word search puzzles, reading, and teaching family members to swim. He touched many lives and anyone who met him loved him immediately. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerry and Denise Cribben of Viera, Fla., Bob and Ellen Cribben of Woodridge, N.J., Marie Cribben of Brockton, Jeannie Cribben and Geri OHare of Morton, Pa., and Lisa and Jimmy Sheehan of Brockton. He leaves six grandchildren, Heather and Brian Vath of Viera, Fla., Michael, Kelly and her fiance Eric Yaple, Kevin, Colleen Cribben of Woodridge, N.J., and Seamus Sheehan of Brockton; three great-grandchildren, Justus and Matthias Vath and Riley Yaple; two sisters, Mildred and Ellen Cribben; one brother, Richard Cribben and his wife Ginger; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph and David, and by his brothers, James, John, Gerald, Lawrence, Ralph and William Cribben. Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday 4-8 p.m. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brockton Firefighters Local 144 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 868 , Brockton, MA 02303.
