James Mercurio Obituary

James D. Mercurio BRAINTREE James D. Mercurio, of Braintree and Hull, died Nov. 26, 2008. He was the beloved son of the late James D. Mercurio and Lucy (Mucci); beloved father of Paul Mercurio and his wife Susan of Weymouth, Kim Laterza and her husband Tony of South Boston and Jason Mercurio and his wife Kelly of Texas; former husband of Diane Doucette of Braintree; brother of Theodore Mercurio of Florida and Michael Mercurio of Hull; grandfather of Alex, Alison, Matthew and Nicholas Mercurio. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Mercurio was born in Brockton and moved to Hull when he was 16. His family ran a number of successful businesses in Hull. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was promoted to corporal. He was stationed in Germany, where he was an instructor in radio technology. During his time in Europe, he traveled extensively and often told stories of his adventures to friends and family. After the war, Mr. Mercurio studied electronics at Franklin Institute in Boston and became a licensed electronics repairman. He was a familiar figure around the town of Hull providing television sales and service for more than 15 years. Mr. Mercurio also served as a Hull Firefighter for 15 years. In 1974, Mr. Mercurio moved to Braintree with his family. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral Mass in St. Michael's Church, 87 North Main St., Avon, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Mercurio may be made to the National Federation for the Blind, 1800 Johnson St., Baltimore, MD 21230.
