John McLaughlin Obituary

John "Jack" Joseph McLaughlin, age 85, of Lakeville, longtime resident of Abington, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Deanna F. (Rose) McLaughlin, who predeceased him in 2007. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Helen M. (Kelley) McLaughlin. Jack was employed through the United States Post Office, as I.T. support. He served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War, from 1951-1954. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2188, Middleboro, and the American Legion, Middleboro, and the K.W.V.A. Chapter 299. He will be warmheartedly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved taking road trips with his wife with no particular destination. Jack will be remembered as a lover of life, fun, and laughter, as well as an avid music lover, who was known to listen to oldies music constantly. He enjoyed the dog track, and birthday lunches. He spent 30 plus years in Abington raising his family, before moving to Lakeville. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro. Survivors include three daughters, Linda A. McLaughlin, of Rockland, Paula A. and her husband Robert McCormack, of Abington, Donna A. Foley, of Middleboro; sisters, Helen and her husband George Werra, of Holbrook and Mildred Hardiman of Canton; 5 grandchildren, Diane F. McCormack, of Abington, Joshua McLaughlin, of Middleboro, Marie McCormack, of Brockton, Anthony McLaughlin, of Rockland, Alicia Foley, of Middleboro; 4 great-grandchildren, Douglas Hemenway, of Abington, Madisyn, Mackenzie, and Matthew Beals, all of Brockton. He was father of the late Deanna F. McLaughlin and Debra McLaughlin, brother of the late Thomas McLaughlin, and Jeanette Flemmi; and grandfather of the late John J. Corcoran, and Brian J. McCormack. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 19, from 4-7 p.m. in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20, at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St., Middleboro. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
