I just heard of Mabel's passing last night from a friend of mine who gets the Attleboro paper and it was quite a shock as I was intending to visit her on Tuesday. I saw her last July and she was still pretty good mentally but could see her failing physically. She asked if I wanted to stay the night in the next bed, and when I saw her last Christmas she asked the same thing and would my daughter mind. I've known Mabel for over 20 years as a customer at the pharmacy where I worked and loved her at first sight. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out and when I visited her at her home she always said I was losing weight and wanted to feed me. She was a gracious host and very spiritual and always concerned about my mother who was in a nursing home. I will always remember Mabel and hold her in a special place in my heart. May she now rest in the arms of God.

I became Mabel's next door neighbor three years ago. She charmed my construction crew, leaning out her bedroom window while they ate lunch in the yard, and she charmed me. She was vibrant, charismatic, and keenly interested in people. I loved that she kept an eye out for me and my house, always checking in about a new challenge or asking for an update on the last one, and asking for news of the people she met at my house. If I'd been out raking leaves or shoveling snow, she'd reminisce about doing that herself, until a few short years ago. I heard that from the neighbors, too, and that she'd go up on the ladder to clean off her own roof until pretty recently.
Her upbeat outlook, generous heart and strength of will are an inspiration to me. I pray that, when I'm old, some distant relatives will move in across the street and look after me, as Allie and John did for Mabel, so I can live on my own as long as she did.

I thoroughly enjoyed assisting Mabel with her care and meals. For a 108 year old lady Mabel was always concerned about everyone else. Mabel's favorite subject was her friend and neighbor, Allie. She just loved Allie who took care of Mabel like her own grandmother. Mabel glowed when Allies name came up.
Mabel's manners were impeccable and she always wanted to share her meals with others. Mabel loved her breakfast and often stated, "this is delicious ". She was just a peanut with a large mans appetite at breakfast. When I assisted her to bed for a nap she would ask me to lay down and nap, always concerned I was working too hard. You grew on me Mabel and I learned to love you. You're unforgettable. You finally get to rest.

I had the pleasure of being Mabel's "roommate" at Southeast Rehab in Easton for a short time this past April. I did not want to leave her, and wanted to bring her home with me. She was quite the woman, a joy to be with and a sense of humor even at her age. I told my visitors that I had a roommate who was 4 years old when the Titanic sank. I know she would have been 109 in December-may you rest in peace, Mabel, in God's loving arms...
