I barely knew Chris because I've lived out of state for decades but his mother Peggy is one of my oldest friends. I'm not sure if Peg will remember this incident from Chris's toddler days, but I hope it will prompt a smile on this wrenching anniversary. Chris was just learning to talk when my husband and I visited many years ago. He liked company and wasn't ready to go to bed, and tears weren't helping his case. In desperation he pulled out one of his recent, endearing phrases: "The survey says!" That's what Richard Dawson said on Family Feud, and Chris knew it got a laugh. So as he was being carried upstairs, struggling, he lisped, "Da survey sez, Da survey sez, all the way to his bedroom. He was a sweet, endearing boy and a handsome young man. He left his devastated parents, but he's still a glowing heart at the center of his family. Rest in peace, Chris.
Love,
Gerry

All I ever knew of Chris was his kindness, talent, humor and good-nature. I am so grateful for all the happy memories I have of him, and equally saddened by the pain of his passing as felt by all. I leave my deepest sympathies here for his family and many friends. I hope the pain will fade in time so that we can remember Chris only with the joy that he brought every single one of us.
With great love,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To steve peg & the rowan family:
It is with a heavy heart that i say from my wife Donna & i that we are so saddened to hear the news of Chris's passing.Steve would always laugh when talking about something chris was up to.I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at a few Rowan get togethers as well as T functions, having worked with all the Rowans at the T over the years i can only imagine the grief you are all feeling over the loss of someone so young. No parent should ever feel the loss of their children before them in the game of life, i have been through that earlier situation with my family as well. I found out through my son michael who is always in touch with the weirs of whitman who lived on school street, he just notified me this afternoon after returning home from work. Please accept our deepest sympathy's from the whole Carnell family.May Chris finally feel the eternal rest & peace and that the Rowan family as a whole find the time to heal & find solice to embrace his life for the short time he lived and shared with you all.
