In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I grow up in Braintree, Ma. just two houses away. I have many great memories of summer parties at their home and Betty loved having the kids around. Betty had given so much of her time as a volunteer. Even more then a volunteer, she would run the show. Weather it was Cub Scouts, C.C.D. or School activity, Betty was there. Even long after hers sons had completed those activities. Betty was not the kind of person to set around and complain about a problem. Betty was a doer. I always had nothing but love and respect for both Betty and Tom.

I knew Betty from seeing her at the 4:00 PM mass on Saturdays. We would chat before mass and she was always very encouraging to me. I always thought of Betty as a very special person and looked forward to seeing her each week. She struck me as very brave and humerous and she uplifted me many times as we would always talk before mass.
