Josephine Doherty Obituary

Josephine Doherty BRAINTREE Josephine (Giusto) Doherty, 84, of Braintree, Massachusetts passed away on March 29, 2009 after a long struggle with complications from a June operation. She married the late William "Doc" Doherty in 1941 and joined the war effort after the birth of her son. Josephine was a welder at Fore River Shipyard for the duration of World War II. After the war, she gave birth to daughters, then went to work for the Raytheon Company in 1950. She worked in the testing department, initially with vacuum tubes in the 50's, then transistors in the 60's and 70's and finally missile circuits by the time she retired in 1985. Mother of the late Mary Doherty, Josephine is survived by her son William Doherty, Jr. of Weymouth and his wife, Dorothy; daughter Kathleen Doherty of the Netherlands; son-in-law Al Patilla of Weymouth; four grandchildren: Kristin, Brian, Elizabeth and Liann; and six great-grandchildren: Jack, Meredith, Molly, Ronan, Cole and Declan; niece, Lydia Berksza; and nephews, Francis and Merrill Worden. After retirement, Josephine and Bill became "snow birds" and lived in West Palm Beach and Weymouth until Bill's death in 1999. In her spare time, Josephine loved to shop and cook for her family. She enjoyed making ceramics and was always busy with sewing and craft projects for charity groups. She leaves behind a great group of friends at Independence Manor in Braintree who will finally be able to win again at poker. She also leaves a caring group of staff at Royal Rehabilitation Center in Braintree who lovingly looked after Josephine during this protracted postoperative period. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 55 Commercial St., Weymouth. Burial will be private. Visiting Hours Friday, April 3rd from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosie's Place in Boston or a charity of your choice.

I'll always remember all the good times that I had years ago in Jo & Bill's house in Braintree. Also, I really appreciate that Jo and her family have kept in touch with me all these years and included me in the family events.

SO many childhood memories of Aunt Jo..
I spent lots of fun weekends at the house on Union Street when I was young, sent to chaperone Kathys dates, Florida trips with Aunt Jo and Uncle Bill. You will be missed Godmother.
