Becka HUNT Obituary

October 22, 1973 - September 12, 2024

Spokane - Becka Julian Hunt (AKA: Rebecca Lyn Maxwell), born October 22, 1973, in San Diego, California, died unexpectedly on September 12, 2024, in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 50, due to a pulmonary thromboembolism. She faced a complex medical history with grace and courage, managing an autoimmune disorder and ongoing mental health challenges with strength and self-awareness.

Becka was a woman of deep kindness, fierce intelligence, and sharp humor. A lover of politics and passionate defender of the underdog, she never hesitated to stand up for what was right--even when it was hard. She approached the world with curiosity and compassion, and made people feel seen. Creative to the core, Becka found joy in the simple and the unusual. She adored knitting, vegan baking, gardening, vintage clothing, and caring for animals--especially her two beloved black cats, rescued from the streets of Spokane. She loved hiking and traveling and once took a cross-country trip just to sample a grilled cheese and fries in every state. She had a gift for finding beauty in overlooked places and meaning in small rituals.

Becka was an avid podcast listener, cyclist, lifelong reader, and lover of well-worn books and thoughtful conversations. She shared ten years of love and companionship with her devoted partner, who survives her.

Becka's legacy is one of resilience, laughter, creativity, and quiet rebellion. She will be deeply missed by the friends and chosen family who knew her, loved her, and stood beside her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Becka's memory may be made to organizations supporting mental health, animal rescue, or access to books and education.
