Charles GAYLORD Obituary

Charles Lincoln Gaylord was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane on July 24, 1947, to Frank and Dorothy Gaylord. After a long struggle with lung disease, he passed away at home on February 17, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Chuck went to Lewis and Clark High School and Eastern Washington University where he received a degree in sociology and psychology in 1969. He was married for 21 years to the love of his life, Deloris. She preceded him in death in May 2020.

Chuck loved kids. He worked at a group home after college, worked with Big Brothers, and was a Guardian Ad Litem for the Spokane juvenile court.

He owned his own sports memorabilia business for many years. He loved softball, old cars, and antiques. Chuck is in the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame and threw the only no-hitter in a National Softball Qualifying tournament in Spokane. The Wanderers Car Club was also a big part of his life. He and Deloris spent a lot of time at car shows with his 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix convertible and his 1941 Packard convertible. Chuck was well known for his expertise in sports memorabilia, cars, and coins.

Chuck cherished his friends and family and was always willing to help someone in need. To know him was to love him. Spokane will not be the same without Chuck!

He is survived by his sisters Sue Patneaude, Sally Brand (Scott), brother Linc (Della), and by his sons Sean, Rich (Becci), Rob (Jen), and Chuck Jr. and several grandchildren. Chuck had one daughter, Michelle, who died in infancy.

Please save the date for a memorial service to celebrate Chuck's 75th birthday on Saturday, July 23, 2022, with the time and place to be confirmed.

My condolences. I started visiting his shop at 10 yo after we moved from Montana. Chuck let me come into his shop while still on Dishman Mica and organize cards. He'd set a box of cards in front of me and tell me to find anything over $3 etc. He'd give me the pricing gun and then go back to his business. At the end of two hours he'd pay me in Cincinnati Reds cards. He even let me come job shadow him in 2000/01 when my teacher gave us a business assignment. Talking collecting with him was a highlight of my childhood, since my father never collected cards. When Lou Brock came to his shop I was the last person in line as I just left baseball practice. Chuck, me and my mom stood around and listened to Brock tell stories. It was a highlight of my childhood collecting.
