Charles Riddle Obituary

RIDDLE, Charles P.
"Chuck"

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Charles P. Riddle passed away suddenly on October 7, 2011 at the age of 79. Born in Billings, Montana in 1932, Charles (or Chuck as he preferred to be called) was born ready for adventure. Growing up in Montana he developed a passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. However his need for adventure led him to join the Army at the age of 17, serving tours in such places as Korea, Germany, El Paso and San Francisco just to name a few. During a tour in Germany in 1952 he would meet Eveline Schirmer, marrying her the following year, and starting a family that would grow to five kids. In 1964 he would settle in Spokane, Washington, where he would retire from the Army after 20 years of service. In Spokane he would begin a new career, continue to raise his family and live until his death.
After the Army, Dad used his charm, his warm smile, his engaging personality and lots of hard work to begin a successful career in sales, working for 29 more years. He later would spend time fishing, hunting, golfing or taking on some new project. One of Dad's greatest passions began in 1970 with the purchase of 10 acres in the mountains. Over the coming years, with the help of his wife and kids, a cabin and several outbuildings would be built and a well dug. At the cabin we learned about hard work, learned how to use a saw, hammer and tape measure, but we also learned to roast marshmallows, swim and ride motorcycles. Most importantly we learned a lot about our dad, accumulating many great memories and lots of funny stories.
"Dad, when we meet again you are getting the biggest hug and I bet we are both going to have some great stories to share. I can already see you behind the wheel of that RV you just scored a heck of a deal on, with a big smile on your face heading toward the open road in front of you. Check out all the good spots along the way, I know you are going to find the best fishing holes, darn good food and amazing scenery you wish you could share with me. Let me try a few detours along the way, but give me direction when I need it most, and you know I will see you on down the road. Love you Dad!"
Dad will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. He touched many people's lives and never failed to help out someone that needed a hand or just some advice. Dad was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Doris Riddle and his sister, Joyce, and survived by three remaining sisters; LeAnn, LaDana, Nola and their respective families. He is also survived by Eveline, his wife of 58 years, his five children; Eveline Baisch, Charles James (Jim) Riddle, Linda Staton, John Riddle, David Riddle, their respective spouses and extended families, which include four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A private service will be held in the coming weeks. A donation can be made in memoriam to the American Diabetes Association by phone at 1-800-DIABETES or on their website at http://donations.diabetes.org.
