Dan RUMPELTES Obituary
Dan Rumpeltes passed away on July 26, 2025, in Spokane, WA. He will be remembered by family and friends for his easy conversation, dapper style and the sparkle in his eyes when he smiled.
Dan Clark Rumpeltes was born in Spokane, WA, on March 16, 1928, to Andrew Henry Rumpeltes and Veda (Clark) Rumpeltes. Dan attended Hutton School and in 1946 graduated from Lewis & Clark High School, where he was involved in clubs, student government, was a 3-year letterman in track, and played basketball for the legendary coach, Squinty Hunter. Dan enrolled at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, and graduated in 1950. Dan was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and during his time at Whitman, he met Doris Danielson, whom he married in 1950. Dan and Doris enjoyed 55 years together and lived in Spokane, the Spokane Valley and Coeur d' Alene, ID, before retiring to Hayden Lake, ID and Palm Desert, CA.
Dan worked for his father, Andy, at Inland Pacific Stamp, and took over the family business in 1958. Over the years, Dan was involved in and served as president of the Marking Device Association, a trade organization for his industry. Dan served in the Coast Guard Reserve during the Korean War. Dan was also involved in civic and service organizations including the Lions Club and The El Katif Shriners of Spokane. Dan and Doris were members of All Saints Episcopal Church in the Spokane Valley.
An avid golf and tennis player, Dan was a member of Hayden Lake Golf & Country Club and Chaparral Country Club in Palm Desert, CA, and was President of the boards of both organizations. Dan was a fan of most sports and loved watching games with his sons and grandchildren. He was a keen competitor and started most mornings with the daily crossword and was known to end many days with a cocktail and a game of gin rummy.
Dan is survived by his four sons and their families: Ned and Nancy Rumpeltes and Jennifer Black of Spokane, WA, Sara Furdyna of Snoqualmie, WA, and Ned's daughter, Carol Knight of Denver, CO; Jim and Kathy Rumpeltes of Surprise, AZ, Andy Rumpeltes of Peoria, AZ, and Carolyn Rumpeltes, of Los Angeles, CA; John Rumpeltes and Leslie Thornton of Seattle, WA, and Hannah Roze of Medina, WA; and Tom, Peggy, and Joe Rumpeltes of Seattle, WA, and Luc Rumpeltes of San Diego, CA; and 16 great-grandchildren.
