David AMATO Obituary

November 4, 1939 - December 4, 2024

David was born and raised in Spokane, WA, graduating from Mead High School in 1958. While at Mead, he lettered in Track and Field winning several medals in high jump. He went on to attend two years at Humboldt University in Arcata, California. As an athlete, he loved water and snow skiing and served as a volunteer on the Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol for many years. He loved basketball and played on the church basketball team, where they achieved several regional playoffs.

After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, David became very active in Scouting and was always readily available to teach the automotive merit badge. He involved his two boys through their years in the program and enjoyed celebrating his son

Todd's achievement of Eagle Scout.

David's passion was restoring cars, with his main focus on Chevrolet Corvettes. Over the years, he successfully earned every ASE certification and was generous in sharing the knowledge he had gained.

David married his wife, Marilyn, in Spokane in 1966 and together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Their two sons, Scott and Todd, were both born in Spokane. David and Marilyn and their boys were Sealed in the Seattle Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, July 3, 1981.

David was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Judy; and his son, Scott who died January 19, 2024, of a pulmonary embolism. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man, frequently sought out for automotive advice and assistance by many. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Todd; and brother and sister-in-law, Rose and Paul Wilkinson. A memorial service was celebrated on December 14, 2024.

His memory will live on in our hearts until we meet again!

I grew up in Redondo Beach and knew David's 2 sons his son Scott was my best friend in High School and all threw the 90's and beyond ... David was not like my other friends dads he was always inviting and treated his sons friends with kindness and respect was always there to teach and include everyone equally he was always there to help in any way especially when it came to cars ... David was the one that called me to tell me that Scott had died , its been over a year since Scott's death and I have still not shaken that .. to hear now that David has past is also as shocking .. I am unbelievably saddens by this news .. My heart goes out to Marilyn and Todd ...

I have been thinking of David these past few weeks, even though we have been out of touch for years! The last time I saw him was in the Portland, Oregon area. He is my cousin and I have many memories of the fun we had growing up. I have photos of him with his sister, Judy, and our mothers. I learned to drive with him teaching me on the back roads. I am so sorry to learn of his passing....and feel bad that we were not close in our adult years. How do we loose touch? My condolences to Marilyn and his children. God Bless you, David. I would love to hug you...but perhaps we will meet up in Heaven.
