David VOLLER Obituary

David Allen Voller was born in Yakima, WA on August 16, 1957, and passed away on March 20, 2022.

Dave grew up in Vancouver, WA, and as an adult, made his home in Spokane, WA. He was a kind and soft-hearted man who could be tough and would protect you from anything. He always maintained that the majority of situations could be deescalated with conversation, not force.

As a child, he loved to read and enjoyed exploring the woods behind his house. His favorite childhood book was My Side of the Mountain. As a teenager, he had a "cool" Mustang and a "cool" group of friends.

After graduating from Fort Vancouver High School, Dave joined the US Army. He was in the Military Police and graduated from special dog training school. He later graduated from the Washington State Police Academy and Shoreline Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. Dave worked in Law Enforcement, Security, and Risk Management. He retired in 2021 but enjoyed his "Part-Time Gig" at the Spokane Rifle Club where he was an employee and member. He spoke fondly of his friends and fellow Rifle Club members.

Dave was passionate about guns. He taught many gun safety classes over the years. His favorite hobby was building and refurbishing guns and knives. It was "like art to him", expertly putting different pieces and parts together. He enjoyed hunting with friends and fishing with his dad every summer in the San Juan Islands.

Dave's biggest life adventure was in the summer of 1995 when he carefully planned and completed a two-month solo Kayak trip from the mouth of the Columbia River in Canada to the end of the Columbia River where it flows into the Pacific Ocean. Dave's dad met him with his boat and joined him for the final leg of his adventure. They traveled past Astoria and landed in Ilwaco, WA. The family greeted him with balloons and a celebration.

He loved his family and his dear neighbors he affectionately called, "Crazy Marie and Scary Jim". He loved his dog Cinder and missed her every day.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Tudy Voller, and his older brother, Ken Voller.

He is survived by his sisters, Lynda Simonton (Dale) and Janet Kubicsek (Richard), and their families.

There will be a private family service in Vancouver. At his request, Dave's remains will be scattered on the Washington side of the Columbia River.

I only recently learned of Dave´s passing and I was truly heart broken.
Dave possessed this quiet reserve which I so admired. He was such a great guy and always had my back at work.
I like to think that Dave and Mikey DeConto are somewhere off fishing together in a beautiful secluded stream in the mountains. You both were a joy and a blessing to know.

I grew up in Issaquah Washington state and knew Dave when he was an officer.I lost track of him for decades then one day we joined the Spokane Gun Club and when we walked in there he was as he was the safety officer on duty that day. My wife and I loved to drop by the club on Saturdays and Sundays just to visit with him for a few hours and talk about the old days. This news came suddenly and I have to say that the world will be worse off now that Dave is gone . I will see you when its my turn to be called to heaven and I know for a fact that the hunting and the fishing is AWESOME there :-) Ron and Raina keyser
