Duane ALTON Obituary

Early on February 17, 2025, Duane Alton went to be with the Lord. Born on November 2, 1936.

In Atkinson, Nebraska, he attended O' Neil High School. After graduating he joined the US Air Force and last served at Geiger Field, WA. His career began when working for Economy Gas Station and later he purchased his own gas station, which progressed to owning 14 automotive stores over the years in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area, known as Alton Tires. He was known as one of the "Two Good Guys Who Liked To Sell Tires."

Father of two sons, Matthew and Troy; plus three stepchildren, Pam, Greg, and Douglas; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He gave turkeys to employees at Thanksgiving and placed Christian children's books in his stores.

He ran for political office and supported many other candidates. He enjoyed handing out to children two-dollar bills and hundreds of Christian children's books.

He accepted Jesus Christ as a young man and proceeded to teach and attend bible studies; financially supporting Christian Schools and missionaries.

Duane enjoyed displaying fireworks at his lake house, hosting neighborhood parties and entertaining family.

His fondest wish is to have you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior and someday join him in his heavenly home.

Duane was my first boss when I was 16 in 1969. He was a strict but fair man who taught us to be the best we could be to customers. The last time I saw him was at dad's funeral in 2009, and he said kind things about my family. God bless you in heaven for your work on earth!

So sorry to learn of my classmate's (Duane Alton) death. He was a very sincere and religious man and a close friend to many. I know he will be missed by his senior high school class of 1955 but know he has a special place forever. Rest in Peace, my friend!

Duane and Andree were such a gracious couple. Opening their home for a number of events and always giving the credit to Jesus. Duane was a bright light for Christ and lived the talk. It has been an honor knowing him and we will see him again. Lord Bless you Andree, you are loved.

A man of principle and integrity and was one of the first people I met after accepting the LORD as savior. His enthusiasm, energy and love for the LORd ignited my own-treasured and fond memories with him and his family at Inland Empire Baptist Temple in the early to mid 70´s.

We have so many fond memories of living in the same neighborhood as Duane and Andree, and shared Christmas Dinner with them on occasion and neighborhood parties. Duane as many of you know, Duane was a man of God and loved his country sharing many 4th of July evenings with wonderful fire work shows at their lake home with friends and family. We were honored to share those times with them. Andree, our heart felt love goes out to you and your family in this time of sorrow. God Bless you our friend. Craig & Christine

Duane's love for God shined through his daily life. I was blessed to live across the street from Duane and Andree' when my husband passed away--- Duane supported me in every way possible, snow blowing my driveway, lifting my spirits, just being available when needed! He will be truly missed.

I had the amazing opportunity to speak with Duane, I never got the chance to meet him face-to-face but the blessing he was even over the phone made a lasting impact on my life. His love for Jesus showed through the phone, his love for others and giving was tremendous! I will miss the amazing phone conversations and can't wait to meet him in our Heavenly home someday. Praying that the peace of our Heavenly Father be upon his family and friends.

I met Duane in the early 2000s . He had purchased his home in Liberty Lake and was in need of a landscape contractor. I did some work for him and really got to know him. He was such a nice , kind and humble man . He gave me guidance on many things. Real estate, investing, life´s problems , anything. He always had time to talk. He was like a second father to me. I can truly say I was blessed to have crossed paths with him and gained so much knowledge and insight into life. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss you my friend. Thanks for so many memories. Jeff Hoerner

Duane is an incredible man of God. I worked with Duane for years with his billboard advertising. He was quite smart and knew how to advertise, and so fun to work with! Of course my husband and I trusted all of our car care to Alton´s. I considered Duane a wonderful friend and I know I will see him in Heaven when God calls me home. My deepest condolences to his wife, children and all extended family and friends.

When I ran for Treasurer of Spokane County in 2010 I threw a fundraiser at Liberty Lake. Even though I had bought beverages and food not a soul showed up. As I was packing up Duane appeared in the doorway and donated $500. I almost started dancing. Eventually I won with Duane's support and friendship.

To the Alton Family,

I met Duane in 1976 when he hired this stocky young man to pump gas and clean bathrooms. This was my introduction to a 50 year career of selling tires!

For more than 13 years I worked with Duane as an employee. A better mentor could not be found. He devoted his life to absolute kindness, building people, and encouraging success. A better "first boss" could not be found!

He encouraged his employees to learn, learn and learn. To perfect our skills in order to take the best care of our customers.

Duane remained a good friend for all of our adult life and his encouragement supported our life long joy.

We know he is with our Lord.

Thank you for everything!

May you rest in His Eternal Peace! Duane and Matt helped me many times over the years, with my '67 Mustang, my '77 Mustang and my '79 1/2 ton GMC pick 'em up truck! Duane was a decent businessman and ALWAYS treated me fairly! So did Matt! I supported Duane when he ran for office and being a man of faith myself, I enjoyed the Altons a lot, and having nice chats.
