I worked with Gary at the WSU Motor Pool for 9 years. I moved to Clarkston in 1999. Sharon worked with me to transfer my employment from Yakima Valley College to WSU. After a few interviews, I got a job at the WSU Motor Pool. I didn't even know what a Motor Pool was! Gary was wonderful to work with - he was so knowledgeable, calm and kind. I have so many memories of that time. When Gary retired he didn't want any celebration - nothing. My co-worker Laurel and I decided we needed to do something. For some reason we settled on a conversation he had with Gary where we had been discussing the swim caps ladies used to wear. Gary said "I would pay money to see you guys in one." So Laurel and I ordered the most gaudy, old-fashioned swim caps with huge flowers, etc. On Gary's last day, we put them on and waited for him to come up to the office. He has so surprised and tickled. It was great.
