Gerald Goeden Obituary

GOEDEN,
Gerald M.

July 15, 1919 to
May 25, 2011

Jerry, as he was more commonly known, died peacefully, holding his wife, Kay's hand and surrounded by family members, on May 25, 2011. Jerry lived his entire life in Spokane, WA. He was born July 15, 1919, to Joseph and Caroline Goeden. He was the middle son of three boys preceded in death by older brother, Leo Goeden, and younger brother, Ronald Goeden. Jerry attended Gonzaga High School. After high school, Jerry met the love of his life, Kathryn. Shortly after they married, Jerry was sent with the Army Air Corps in 1942, to various places in India to serve during WWII for three years. He and Kay were reunited after the war, and settled in Spokane, where Jerry worked for Pacific Northwest Bell, until retiring in 1981. Jerry loved the game of golf, the sunshine, the lakes around Spokane and skiing in the winter. In their retirement years, Jerry and Kay spent half of the year in Spokane, and the remainder in Arizona, so they could golf year round.
Jerry and Kay, enjoyed 69 years of marriage together, and had three children, Gayle Hill (Gary) of Spokane, Greg Goeden (Shannon) of Spokane, and Therese Killeen (Michael) of Seattle. Jerry was a most affectionate and well loved grandpa to his 10 grandchildren, Brian Solinsky (Lissa) of Puyallup, WA, Thomas Solinsky (Mary) of Nashville, TN, Darin Solinsky (Brooke) of Snoqualmie, WA, Shanna Hill (Caleb) of Portland, OR, Jason Hill (Shanni) of Orlando, FL, Steve Whitehill, (Rachael) of Spokane, and John Killeen, Katie Killeen, Mary Killeen and James Killeen, all of Seattle, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Jerry will always be known and loved for his happy nature. He could always be heard with a song on his lips or whistling a happy tune. Jerry (Dad) (Grandpa) we miss you terribly, you were a quiet inspiration and a gentle man. Keep singing a happy tune.
There will be a Rosary said for Gerald Goeden (on what would have been his 92nd birthday) Friday, July 15, 2011 at the funeral home at 7:00 pm. A Mass and Celebration of Life will take place at 10:30 on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Thomas More, 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane. You and your mom and family will be remembered in my prayers..I will always remember your dad as a very quiet gentle man and your dad and moms kindness to me when Mike died in l987...They invited me to visit them in Venture Out and because of them I fell in love with it as they did...Because of them I bought a place by them and enjoyed their freindship for many years..

God Bless all of you.

I am sorry to hear of your loss and am wondering if we are somehow related. I am the granddaughter of the late Helen and Albert Goeden. My father's name was Harry P. Goeden and he would have been about Gerald's age. He also went to Gonzaga High School and he worked for Pacific NW Bell. I have a sister named Gayle Goeden. Lots of coinsidents so I thought I'd ask. Sincerely, Karen Goeden Fuller
