Jerry BYRD Obituary

July 23, 1941 - January 21, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to Jerry. He passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, January 21, 2024. A lifelong Spokane resident, he was born on July 23, 1941. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1959, served in the US Navy, and received a business degree from Eastern Washington University in 1968. Jerry spent most of his career as owner of Designer Kitchens and Baths and then later designed kitchens for Home Depot before his retirement.

Jerry is survived by Sharon, the love of his life for 60 years, his three children, Jeffrey, Amy (John Woitach) and Connie (John McLeod), eight grandchildren, Nick, Sean, Ashley, Tony, Morgan, Kyle, Tanner and Alaina, five great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Bobbi and Dave Freeman, sister-in-law Jeanne Fields, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister and two brothers, a brother-in-law and a nephew. He loved us all and we loved him so much.

Jerry was generous with his time and talents, gentle, kind, so smart and funny with a quick wit. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, listening to classical music, cooking Sunday dinners and big breakfasts, and could fix or build almost anything. He also loved woodworking, creating some beautiful furniture pieces over the years.

Burial at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Spring 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations if you wish to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Union Gospel Mission.

I wrote your name in the sand, but the waves washed it away

I wrote your name in the sky, but the wind blew it away

So I wrote your name in my heart and that's where it will stay- always.
