Jim CONRAD Obituary

Jim Conrad was born in March 1935, and passed from this life in January 2025, a few weeks short of his 90th birthday. The son of L.R. and Audra Conrad, Jim spent his early years living in the oilfields of west Texas. In elementary school, the family transitioned to living on a farm near Elmore City, Oklahoma. In 1958, Jim graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture. The day before graduation, Jim married his college sweetheart, Catherine Cook. Jim and Cathy were partners in farming, cattle ranching, pecan businesses, and raising three children in Southern Oklahoma. Cathy preceded Jim in death in 2007. Jim remarried Judy Smith in 2010, but sadly she perished from cancer in 2012. After deciding to retire from farming, Jim relocated to Spokane, Washington where he spent his last dozen years. Soon after moving into Fairwood Retirement Village, Linda Grandfield caught his eye. They eloped in November 2013 and had over 11 happy years together. Known for his good nature and always making people laugh, Jim was active in church and community activities wherever he lived. He will be missed by many, but especially by his beloved wife, Linda Grandfield Conrad; children, Jena Conrad Coffey of Clarkston, WA, Jonna Conrad Way of Powder Springs, GA, and James Conrad of Pearland, TX; as well as foster son, James Williams of Sulphur, OK. Jim was also the proud grandfather of five grandsons and two granddaughters and enjoyed seeing his first four great-grandchildren before his death. Jim was also deeply loved by Linda's children, Kenny Grandfield and Donna Grandfield Gehring. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, in the Garden Room at Fairwood Retirement Village, 312 W. Hastings Road, Spokane, WA 99218.

I'm so sorry to hear of the death of Jim. He always seemed like such a happy man. My dad, Don Barton, got acquainted with him soon after my parents moved to Fairwood, and dad really felt a kinship with Jim since he was also a farmer. My condolences to you, Linda, and the rest of the family.

It is so difficult to capture Jim in words. He was always so full of joy! He had a way of looking at you that just made you happy. His eyes would always sparkle like he was right on the brink of something mischievous. What I loved the most about Jim is how he loved my Mom, Linda. He loved her unconditionally and his love healed her in so many different ways. I believe God gifted them to each other to spend their most treasured years together. We were all blessed by getting to know and be loved by this amazing man who was full of humor, love, kindness, and wisdom. I could go on and on with accolades but I will end with you can know a man´s true character by how he treats others at the end. Jim was kind and grateful for the care he received from the nurses, my Mom, and he always offered a thank you or a kind word. Jim is one of a kind and must be having a wonderful time in heaven right now. I wonder which joke he is telling Jesus??
