John FLANIGAN Obituary

October 17, 1946 - March 30, 2025

John Casey Flanigan found his greatest joy in family, friendship, and life's simple pleasures. He was most often found outside and could be seen with a fishing pole in hand, walking a round of golf, manning the grill, tending to his tomatoes, or strolling the neighborhood. He loved music, books, baking sourdough bread, watching sports, and sharing coffee chats with friends.

John took pride in doing hard things and doing them well. A dedicated runner, he completed three marathons and countless Bloomsdays. He spent much of his career in construction, pouring his craftsmanship and care into countless homes for family and friends.

Born and raised on Spokane's north side, John was often at the heart of adventures with his siblings and many cousins. After graduating from North Central High School, he lived and worked across the Pacific Northwest, California, and Arizona, before returning home to Spokane. Along the way, he embraced sobriety, spending the last 26 years reconnecting with loved ones, pursuing higher education, and helping others as a mental health counselor.

John had an enormous heart, a gift for storytelling, and a contagious laugh that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen; daughter, Erin Flanigan; son, Casey John Flanigan; granddaughter, Dylan Grace Reichert-Flanigan; and siblings, Kathy Flanigan, Tom (Jackie) Flanigan, Colleen Gregg (Fred), Patty Flanigan, and Mike (Valerie) Flanigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Genevieve Casey Flanigan; and brothers, Jerry and Dennis Flanigan.

A celebration of John's life - full of love, laughter, and memories - will be held at his home on June 21.
