John Joseph Matts, 69, passed away unexpectedly on October 3rd, 2023, in Spokane, WA, where he spent most of his life. Born on December 29th, 1953, in Seattle, WA, John lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and dedication. As a founding owner of 'T&J's Pourhouse', his career was varied, encompassing roles as an umpire, certified caretaker, along with several other professions.

John's life was profoundly enriched by his marriage to Teresa Stewart (1990-2006). In Teresa's final years, John's compassionate and dedicated care for her illustrated the depth of their bond. Their one son, Taylor Matts, was the heart of John's world, receiving his unwavering love and dedication as a father.

A passionate sports fan, John avidly supported the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, and Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball. As a man with an unquenchable curiosity for the world around him, he held a deep love for nature as was evident in his expertise in mushroom foraging, enjoyment of huckleberry picking, and exploration of the back roads around Mount Spokane and Northern Idaho. John's fascination with space and wildlife, especially the South Hill turkeys, showcased his diverse interests.

John will be remembered for his generous spirit and selflessness, always prioritizing the needs of others. His kindness and generosity profoundly impacted his community, friends, and family.

John leaves behind his son, Taylor, daughter-in-law, Dyllin, sisters, Linda Hull and Terri McDevitt, and his beloved cat, Luney. His booming voice, legendary coffee-making skills, and the legacy of his generous spirit continue to resonate with all who knew him.
