John MOUNT Obituary

April 16, 1938 - November 20, 2024

John Hendrickson "Rick" Mount III, 86, of Westport, CT, passed peacefully on November 20, 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Mount of Spokane, WA; his wife, Fredricka "Ricky" Baldwin; and his younger brother, Philip Mount.

Rick grew up in Shrewsbury, NJ and had two lifetime loves: sailing and trains. He learned to sail on the Shrewsbury River with his uncle. In CT, he had a sailboat and was a member of the Cedar Point Yacht Club where he was able to race.

His love of trains began at an early age when he traveled across the country by train with his cousin. He built a model train set that was a replica of the train station in Red Bank, NJ. One Christmas, his daughter received a water tower kit for the train set. He was also able to take the train from Chicago to NYC with his daughter. The photograph was taken on the train from Ione to Metalline Falls, WA.

Rick joined the army and was stationed in El Paso, TX. He graduated from the UT Austin with a BA in Latin American Studies. This inspired another love of his, travel. He was able to travel for business all over Latin America and the Caribbean and later moved with his first wife and daughter to Lebanon where he continued to travel all over the Middle East.

Rick eventually settled in CT and married his second wife. They bought a home in Westport where he lived until his passing.

Rick's ashes will be spread in the Gulf of Mexico where his parents' and sister's ashes are scattered.

I remember trying to find something that he would like to do. He was always wanting to watch Football, so I would find a game for him. One time I decided we should play my Jeopardy game on the Wii. He had trouble with the controller, and we laughed a lot although he was very serious like you Madge, but I could get him to laugh a bit

One of the last times Dad came out West to visit. Not sure what we were cooking. I see Tony Chachere's and so I am imagining we made gumbo. Love that wonky smile of his. I got to see it the last week I saw him.
