John Pring Obituary

PRING, John G. "Glenn" Devoted husband, father and grandfather John G. "Glenn" Pring passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 17, 2010. The lifetime Spokane resident was 72. John was born on March 18, 1938, to Perry O. and Cecelia Glennon Pring. He grew up on the South Hill and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in 1956. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1964 after eight years of dedicated service. John married Maureen Ann Brown on Jan. 21, 1961, and they made their home in north Spokane. John was employed by the Crescent department store for 11 years, starting in the sewing machine service department. He went on to work as department manager in men's apparel and finally as senior housewares buyer. In 1971, John was hired as a regional sales representative for the West Bend housewares company, where he worked until he retired in 1996. The thing that was most important to John was his family and he loved the time he was able to spend with them, especially during his retirement years. Special getaways for John and his wife included visits along the Oregon Coast and to Victoria, B.C. John also was a faithful fan of Washington sports teams. John's health took an unexpected turn seven years ago. He survived an abdominal aortic aneurysm in 2003 and courageously battled a neurodegenerative condition that followed. John is survived by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Maureen; their five children, Kaycee Kaley (David) of Spokane, Kathy Hedgcock (Jim) of Davenport, Wash., Scott Pring of Lincoln, Neb., Kristi Pring of Spokane, and Kelly Michels (Matt) of Spokane; six grandchildren, Rachael Stephens (Shane) of Spokane, Rhia Petersen (Connor) of Provo, Utah, Riley and Alexander Michels of Spokane, and Kindra and Dallas Pring of California; two great-grandchildren, Kayliegh Hansen and Kenzie Stephens of Spokane; step-mother Mardi Pring Luppert of Spokane; brother Mike Pring of Portland; sister Penny Given of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pete Pring. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 23, at St Gregorios Orthodox Church, 2803 N. Lincoln St. (Lincoln Street and Grace Avenue), Spokane. Graveside service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St., Spokane. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Second Harvest, VNA Home Health Care Services or a charity of choice.
