Marguerite O'KEEFE Obituary

We lost our beloved Marguerite Mary O'Keefe, our grand matriarch, on August 4, 2025. Known as Nana, Peggy, Peg and Mrs. O., she lived and loved life to its fullest. She was born to Dr. Bertrand and Elizabeth Fitzmaurice on August 10, 1944, in Seattle, Washington. Peggy grew up on Capitol Hill as the third child with her four siblings, Kas, Tom, Molly and Annie. Summers were spent at the family's summer house in Sandy Hook on Agate Pass. Peggy often spoke of carefree summers swimming, waterskiing and hanging out with friends.

Peggy graduated from Forest Ridge in 1962, moving to Spokane to attend nursing school at Sacred Heart School of Nursing. After graduating from nursing school, Peggy married her true love, Dr. Neil John O'Keefe, on December 22, 1965, in Seattle, Washington. Within the next four years, Neil and Peggy welcomed their first four children: Shannon, Erin, Neil, and Sean. Daughter, Megan, followed nine years later and daughter Kelly five years after that, rounding out the O'Keefe family.

Peggy's family and friends were the center of her world. Her kitchen was an altar to all who gathered in her home for her fabulous cooking. Peggy was fun loving, always smiling and laughing. Nothing made her happier than entertaining a cast of thousands. Her home and pool were the heart of every gathering, thanks to her always-stocked fridge and her truly welcoming nature.

Other than doting on her family, Peggy loved playing tennis, traveling and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She never wanted to miss marching in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. She was always the life of the party and loved to dance the night away.

Nana will forever be revered and adored by her six children, Shannon (Brian Habib), Erin (Joseph Hojnacki), Neil (Heather), Sean (Heather), Megan (Mark Case), and Kelly (Bryan Case). She was adored by her 17 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

To celebrate Peggy's life, a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima, 3327 S. Perry St., Spokane, WA 99203. Her memorial service will be held the following day, August 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of

Fatima Parish. A reception will follow at Manito Country Club. Please feel free to wear bright colors to the memorial as Peggy loved all things vivid and colorful.

In lieu of mourning, Peggy would want you to toast a life well lived – full of family, friends and memories we will cherish forever.

I am beyond blessed to have spent the last 5 years spending time with "My" Peggy. I cannot properly express how absolutely amazing and vibrant she was. She had such a huge heart and a vivacious personality. She and Neil were an excellent team, deeply devoted to each other, their 6 wonderful children, 17 grandchildren, and 2 great children.
Peggy quickly became one of my very best friends, and her loss has been monumental and felt by every person who knew her. My life is better having known her, plain and simple. I am a better person having known her. I will miss so many things... From her laugh and smile, to her special way of writing birthday cards, her fun texts and the way we always talked about food, the way she always listened and had meaningful thoughts and advice. She was selfless, brave, intelligent, and kind. She never complained about anything, and she always made other people feel important. I will miss her so very much, but also hold my head high and dive into life with all the gusto and positivity she exemplified daily. Cheers, My Peggy (with a nice chilled Acrobat Pinot Grigio) I love you dearly my friend!!

I will be opening a bottle of champagne on the evening of August 22nd to toast Peggy's life. Sounds like she had a full one. I spent 4 years with her at Forest Ridge. She had such an infectious smile and was always enthusiastic about whatever was happening. I have many good memories of that time with her and our other classmates. I'm glad she was part of a big loving family.

Peggy was a wonderful friend from Forest Ridge and we kept a long distance friendship all these years. She was always so positive and fun and clearly a tremendous loss to your family! And as the Irish Blessing states, "He is holding her in the palm of His hand!"

Peggy brought such joy to all. She was a wonderful friend. I met Peggy in Nursing school and our friendship continued on for many years. I was privileged to be in Peg and Neil´s wedding and it was a beautiful occasion. They had a beautiful life together and were an amazing couple and great parents. Rest in peace, Peggy, reunited with Neil, to enjoy eternity
