Mark ZARKOS

1960 - 2024

Mark left us on February 5, 2024, to be with his mother and father in the hands of our Lord. He will be dearly missed. He was born November 8, 1960, at Scripps Memorial Hospital, San Diego, CA. He was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome and not given a prognosis of a long life. He proved the doctors wrong. The love and care given him by his mother Emily, and the love, care, and support given by his brother Dan (Jim) and sister-in-law Rachel, and Team Mark caregivers Shayna and Michael from Beneficial Home Health, helped him to live a long and happy life. No one gave better hugs or had a bigger smile when he saw you than he did. He loved trips to the grocery store, where he helped bag the groceries and especially loved going for rides in cars our dad would bring home from the shop. His favorite was a red Camaro. He also loved the beach and later on traveling with his bother Dan and Rachel to Hawaii and to the water park at Silver Mountain. He also enjoyed his independence when he attended the Learning Skills Center (LSC) at West Central Community Center and riding the Paratransit bus by himself. While at the LSC he was taken on shopping trips and bowling, another activity he loved. He was preceded by his father, James Zarkos and mother, Emily M. Zarkos. He is survived by his brother, Jim (Dan) Zarkos (Rachel), nephew, Steven Zarkos (Danielle), nieces, Heather (Kelly) Boswell, Dawn (Ryan) Nelms and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. A memorial service will be held on March 20, 2024, 11:00 am at Heritage Funeral home and Cemetery, Spokane, WA. His ashes will be taken to North Dakota to be with his mother and grandmother. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the West Central Community Center, LSC.
