It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Robert Dietrich "Mike" on December 19th, 2022, at the age of 72. If you have listened to live music in Spokane, it is likely you have heard Mike playing drums. Mike lived the majority of his life in Spokane. He moved briefly to Pullman, Washington, in 1967, where he graduated from Pullman High School in 1969. He studied culinary arts at SCC and became a cook at the Chuckwagon; he then went on to work at Eastern Washington University until his retirement in 2007. Mike stayed busy playing drums for many different bands and volunteering at Second Harvest.

He was preceded in death by his mother Arnell and father Robert Dietrich. He is survived by his brother George (Ann Wick-Dietrich) and his sisters Marsha (Terry Jones) and Cindy (John Kromm), nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Services will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28th at 3pm. A celebration of life-jam session will follow at 5pm at the Red Dragon, 1406 W 3rd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Second Harvest in his honor.

I worked with Mike Dietrich at EWU he was a great chef! I learned a lot from him, he was always there for a good laugh when you were having a rough day at work. He was a great drummer he will be missed. I just found out today RIP my friend he was very nice, I will see you at the next kitchen. BW

I knew Mike from volunteering with Second Harvest together. He's the most friendly, humble, and nicest person I've met in a very long time. We liked to talk about music and walking a lot and how that helped us. I'm going to miss you. I'll volunteer a extra shift in your honor.

It's been really nice to see Mike over the years and watch him play the drums. He was always a friendly face when I had the honor of bumping into him at one of the local jams. Playing with Mike was awesome as he is a Really Good Drummer. You will be GREATLY MISSED my Friend. Rest in peace. We will jam again someday in heaven.
