Phil POMEROY Obituary

POMEROY, Phil May 25, 1939 - July 27, 2014 Phil was born in Butte, Montana to Earl and Venita Pomeroy. He was the first of seven children to include: Vern, Wayne (deceased), Lorraine, Lorylin, Bill and Judi. After graduating from Western Montana College, he taught math and coached wrestling, football and track at Powell County High School in Deer Lodge (1964-1969). He ventured to Washington and made Spokane his permanent home. He continued his career as a math teacher, head wrestling coach, and assistant coach in football, track and golf, at Lewis and Clark High School (1969-1998). He took their wrestling team to championship status claiming the AAA Title several years. After 33 years in education he retired and worked full time for various Crop Insurance Companies (Continental, Am. Ag., CAN., AFBIS and FCIA), in several different capacities: Independent Contractor, Claims Manager, Field Service Manager, and in Supervisory roles for the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. He flew frequently to areas nationwide, covering crop adjustments for damages where emergencies had occurred. Phil enjoyed talking problems and working hard, so it was with great disappointment he was forced into retirement earlier than expected, due to complexity of health problems. He fought hard and endured much, but time eventually saw his battle to end. He loved his daughters: Teresa, Renee (deceased), and Michele (mother Judy); Lisa and Joanne (mother Sandi). They will have many stories to tell his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phil enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting, cowboy shoots, rooting for the Seattle Mariners and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He is survived by wife, Constance, "his bride," as he liked to call her these past 25 years. He was her sweetheart and she will miss him dearly. Thanks to Dr. Jeffery Trail, his staff, and Horizon Hospice for their professionalism, kindness and compassion. Funeral Services will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home 2203 N. Division Spokane, WA Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 10:00am.

I spent 22 years working with Phil at LC. Most memories are from the boiler room and the faculty lounge! We were also teammates in the teachers' bowling league where his competitive nature stood out. He wanted to beat everyone, including his own teammates, and he usually did. What a great guy. Medical issues will not allow me to attend the funeral, but I will be there in spirit and send my condolences to the family. May God bless. Bob (RP) Miller

Mr. Pomeroy was one of my favorite teachers at L.C. He was always very patient and understanding as I was horrible with math. he was a good man! He will be missed.
