Preston Lopesz Freeman

Preston Lopesz Freeman went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the age of 20 years. Preston was born February 15, 1993, to Larry Freeman and Leslie Harkless. Preston died in St. Louis, MO, and had been living in Salinas since the summer of 2012.

Preston, or Presto or PayDay, as he was referred to in the Ring, made his pro-debute as a professional boxer under the tutelage of Max and Kathy Garcia, and their son, Sam Garcia, (Garcia Boxing) of Salinas. He had a professional record of 3-0 (1ko) and his last fight was in Salinas on December 15, 2012.

Preston was an outstanding amateur. He was known for his lightning speed, and his great gift of natural talent in the Ring. His power was evident by his knocking down his opponents in each of his fights.

He was a young man full of laughter and had a gift for inspiring the younger boxers who would work out with him, namely, Petey Tavares, Andy Tavares, Rashan Ward and Covassay Windham. Preston visited schools with his boxing team to inspire children to be physically fit. Preston loved music and watching movies; Titanic was his favorite.

Preston is survived by his parents, Larry Freeman and Leslie Harkless of St. Louis, MO; and his siblings, Jamesha Schneider, Jaquala Peebles, Javonne Peebles, Pionte Freeman, Jaquanna Freeman, and Marquis Freeman. He was predeceased by his brother, Larry Freeman III. Preston is survived by his boxing family, Max and Kathy Garcia, Sam Garcia, Paul Mendez, Melissa (Tony) Garcia-Lugo, Sami Rose and Skye Garcia-Lugo, Dominic Johnson; his nutritionist, Linda Rodriguez and his chiropractor, Dr. Luis Ocon.

A Celebration of Preston's life will be held in Salinas on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the Storm House, 185 Maryal Way, Salinas; with a reception following.

Preston will be laid to rest in St. Louis, MO.

Preston you will be in our hearts forever. We will miss that bright smile you brought into the Garcia gym. I will miss your little hugs and the love you gave to little Sami Rose. I can remember during workouts how you graciously gave her your jump rope so she
could workout with you. A memory never to be forgotten. You shall be missed!
