Richard EDWARDS Obituary

June 12, 1943 - February 11, 2025

Spokane - Richard Stewart "Dick" Edwards III, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Cancun, Mexico, doing what he enjoyed most-traveling and spending time with friends. He was 81 years old.

Born on June 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, Dick pursued his education at the University of Arkansas, where he earned his civil engineering degree. His early career took him to San Francisco, where he worked for Cal-Trans. During his younger years, he spent summers working in Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks, experiences that deepened his lifelong love for the outdoors.

Eventually, Dick found his forever home in Spokane, Washington, drawn by its mountains, lakes, and abundant opportunities. He built a successful career in real estate that spanned over four decades. Known for his integrity and trust in people, he often sealed deals with just a handshake. His passion for real estate was not only a profession but also a way to bring people together-a passion he proudly passed down to his three sons.

Beyond his professional life, Dick was a devoted husband and father. He cherished watching his sons play sports and took immense joy in spending time with family and friends. He had a knack for collecting inspirational quotes and stories and was always eager to share them with those around him. A natural entertainer, he loved hosting gatherings and recently indulged himself by purchasing a mega-BBQ smoker-an investment that fueled his enthusiasm for perfecting the art of barbecue.

Travel was another great love of Dick's life. Over the years, he explored the world alongside his wife of 45 years, Leslie. Together, they created countless memories across different countries and cultures.

Dick is survived by Leslie; his three sons: Justin Edwards (Kristin) of Richmond, Virginia, Kevin Edwards (Lindsey) of Spokane, and Christopher Edwards (Marie) of Seattle. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his two younger sisters: Jessie Edwards of Little Rock and Kathleen Barnes of Georgia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in the summer to honor his memory.

Dick has a wonderful family and we miss him so much....He lead and we followed in Real Estate, The realtor of exceptional vision and always so wonderful to work with in Real Estate. We water skiied the St-Joe River and followed on the lakes of the PNW and........he trained his sons so well. His son Kevin is well remembered for his skiing abilities...and for sure Justin and Chris became very close to me personally.

Always on a ski trip somewhere in PNW. One time Due a mechanical failure or braking failure, Dick and I had to jump out the chair at 49 degrees North.

Many great stories about Dick and Leslie....and I love them so much.

I knew Dick mainly as the father of one of the soccer players I coached, his son Chris, and I came to appreciate the intense devotion he showed to his three sons and to Leslie. I enjoyed his subtle wit and sense of humor. Our condolences to the Edwards family.
