Richard Stanley Hallett, or just "Stan" as he liked to be called, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital on August 8, 2025. He was born at Sacred Heart Hospital to Duncan and Ella (Anderson) Hallett in 1935. He was the grandson of Lord Stanley Hallett of Medical Lake, WA. Stan had many memories of playing at the Hallett Castle as a boy.
He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Kinman Business University. He was also in the Washington Air National Guard for 8 years. Out of high school, he worked for Monte Kelly off and on for 8 years, making and installing window shades. Then, on to Fruehauf for a short stint. Stan met his wife of 67 years, Lucille (she passed away in July of 2022) when he was a boy. They lived in the same south hill neighborhood. They officially started dating at ages 17 and 18 and were married on May 21, 1955. There was never any other for him. They raised four children together: Mark (Jane), Chris, Mary Larson (Gary), and Jeanne Samuels (Ric).
Dad was hired at Cominco American as an accountant shortly after the birth of their third child, Jeanne. He was employed there for 39 years, eventually retiring after attaining the position of Accounting Manager of the United States operations. After retirement, Dad and Mom traveled extensively. Dad really enjoyed road trips the best. They did get to Europe finally for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dad was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and good friend to many. He was hardworking, honest, humble, and kind. Very rarely did we ever see a spark of temper. He was a very good golfer, ping pong, basketball, and baseball player. He played rec league softball well into his late seventies until he got walloped in the shin. Some of you might remember that.
Dad participated in Bloomsday for well over 30 years. He loved to travel with our mom sightseeing and visiting family and lifelong friends. He attended Catholic Mass with Mom for over 60 years until her health required him to stay home proving loving and attentive care for her. Dad was a hardworking, good provider for our family, and took great pride in maintaining a nice home and yard. He also enjoyed spending time at his beloved lake cabin at Diamond Lake. He and mom enjoyed going out dancing and watching the old TV westerns, Lawrence Welk, and other shows. They delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for 19 years.
Dad was a dog lover – everybody's dogs. We will all miss 4 o'clock wine time and snacks with Dad. He loved that time with whoever stopped in. He truly was the best Dad in the world. Survived by his four children, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Duncan and Ella; his sisters, Dorothy and Virginia; his brother, Duncan; and his loving wife, Lucille.
A very special thank you to Trizah, Peter, Joy, and Stella at Joyous Hope Family Care Home, where dad spent the last seven months. They welcomed him into their home and dearly loved him. We will always be grateful for their loving and thorough care.
Also, we thank Sacred Heart Hospital for their compassionate care in dad's last week.
His funeral service will be Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 am, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall, Spokane, WA. Online memorial page can be found at
