Robert BANGS Obituary

Robert W. Bangs, of Mead, WA, passed away November 16, 2021, at Hospice of Spokane. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Patricia, his parents, May and Vernon Bangs, his sister Marilyn Swanson, and brothers Kenneth and Leroy Bangs, and grandson Chad Bangs. Most recently though by his fur baby, "Miss Kitty" that he loved very much.

He is survived by his 3 children-son Kenny (Julie) Bangs, daughters Diana (aka Buffy) (Larry) Lair, Judi (Duane) Udland, grandchildren – Lacee, Levi, Tyler, Joey, Jennifer, Jillian, Eric and great-grandchildren – Silas, Logan, Jorden, Jeffery, William, Isla.

Robert was born in Manitou, ND, June 2, 1928. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the USMC which he proudly served for 4 years and 5 months. He fought in the Korean War, was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He then worked on the NPRR and later the BNRR where he was General Car Foreman until he retired.

He and Pat enjoyed snow-birding in Arizona for many years, always making it home to celebrate Christmas with the family. They enjoyed traveling in their RV, going to casinos, camping with family and fishing.

His greatest joy was his family. He always said how "proud and blessed he was for his family". He also had quite a sense of humor. Always had a famous saying of his to share like, "Have you heard the one about the sad flea..."? He will forever be remembered and missed by all that knew him.

A private service will be held at the WA State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to "Wounded Warriors Project", PO Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675. To leave an online condolence to Robert's family, please visit our website at www.HennesseyFuneralHomes.com.

To Kenny and family, I just now read of the passing of your dad. Ken, it was always fun working with you, and really enjoyed your dad as my boss when I was a journeyman carman in Hillyard before I went into engine service. He was a great guy. Tom Marabello, locomotive engineer retired.
