Robert DAHMEN Obituary

December 29, 1944 - July 5, 2025

Forest Grove - Robert Richard Dahmen, aged 80, passed away on July 5, 2025, in Detroit, MI. Born on December 29, 1944, Bob was a cherished individual known for his simplicity, caring nature, and ability to connect with anyone he met.

Bob's early life saw him graduating from Washington State University before joining the Air Force, where he served for four years, primarily stationed in Ankara, Turkey. Taking advantage of his time there, he traveled around Europe recording his adventures with new friends with his passion of photography and daily journaling. His itch for travel and new experiences later took him on a long trip across South America as well. Once settling in Portland, OR, Bob embarked on a career in retail, working in the electronics departments of Meier & Frank and Fred Meyer. Here, he delighted in interacting with customers, often sharing stories over camera purchases and photo development. His hobbies were based around the outdoors (hiking, biking, flower photography), as well as service to others through his faith and volunteering. Bob was a devout member of the Catholic community, actively participating in several parishes throughout his time concluding at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Forest Grove, OR.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert C. Dahmen; and his brother, Neil Dahmen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Broemeling (2024); and his brothers, Gerald Dahmen (1989) and Wayne Dahmen (2016).

He will be laid to rest at Saint Mary of the Rosary Cemetery in Chewelah, WA, on Thursday August 21, 2025, at 10am.

Rob, I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I'm also very sorry to hear of Jeanette's passing as well. I'm so very happy I was able to meet them a couple times. They were both lovely people. I'm very happy you had them as wonderful parents.

Key memories of my uncle Bob include going hiking with him on Mount Hood, seeing him on visits to Bloomington, IN, and again in West Lafayette IN when my dad, his brother Wayne, was also facing the end of a long life battling with dementia and failing health in 2015. His love for family and his dedication to being a keeper of family memories both stand out.

Dad, it's hard to put into words what you meant to me. As I reflect back on our 40 years together little things keep coming to mind that remind me how you shaped me into the man I am today. I never knew how much of me was apart of you, despite being adopted, and I will always love you for it.
I hope others can share memories and thoughts of you here so we can all look back for years to come.
