Sarah DOXEY Obituary
March 11, 1977 - July 16, 2025
In Loving Memory
Spokane - With heavy hearts, we share that Sarah Kay (Clark) Doxey passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 48. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, on March 11, 1977, Sarah was a brilliant, bold, and deeply loved woman who left an indelible mark on everyone lucky enough to know her.
She is survived by her husband, Erick; her two beloved children, Clark and Etta of Spokane, WA; her mother, Carolyn Clark White; sister, Cherri-Anne Bickler (Michael); brother, Eric Clark; one niece, two nephews, two great-nieces, and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her father, Nickey Allen Clark; and brother, James Allen.
From the start, Sarah was full of life - affectionately known as "Kay Kay" to her siblings, who gleefully dragged her around the house on a sheet during childhood. In her teenage years, she was fierce, funny, and unapologetically punk - shaving her head in the '90s and throwing herself into the music and culture with total commitment. She met Erick in high school in Hawai'i, where both their families were stationed, and they married in 2005.
Sarah was a devoted mother whose every decision was rooted in love for her children. Her friends were family, too, and she was always the first to say, "Let's go do the thing."
Sarah approached knowledge as a way of life. She earned an Associate of Arts from Fayetteville Technical Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Washington, a Master's in Communication and Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, and an MBA from Western Governors University. She loved books, podcasts, documentaries, and deep conversations. Her mind was a library, and her heart was always open. She believed leadership meant lifting others up and giving credit where it was due. Her work in healthcare was marked by compassion, authenticity, and the kind of quiet strength that moved mountains.
Sarah was also a serious runner - her happy place was a long, chatty run with friends. She once climbed Mt. Fuji with a broken foot. She completed a 50K in 2021 and had her sights set on a 100-miler. If something caught her eye mid-run - she'd stop to take it in. She didn't just move through life quickly; she noticed everything along the way.
She gave birth to both of her children naturally. She ran marathons. She led teams. She read everything. She laughed loudly. She did hard things.
Sarah embraced people for who they were and created space for everyone to feel seen. She valued inclusivity, and her kindness was matched by a fierce sense of justice and tolerance that made people feel safe around her.
She never pretended to be perfect. She put her makeup on in the car. She drank Red Bull instead of coffee. She believed life is messy and beautiful and worth showing up for fully. She encouraged everyone around her to be brave, to change their minds, and to live big lives with open hearts.
If you'd like to honor her, here's how: Go on the vacation. Take the leap. Wear the shorts. Hug your kids. Call your friend. Go for the run.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church 318 S. Cedar St. Spokane, WA 99201. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sarah Doxey Memorial Fund set up by CHAS Health.
