Wesley STONE Obituary

STONE, DDS Wesley Beard Dr. Wesley Beard Stone was born with a twinkle in his eyes, a smile on his face and a laugh that could warm any heart. Dr. Jonathan and Hazel knew they had an unique child from the beginning. Even his younger sister Catherine knew he was a special older brother. Wesley was reared in Spokane and attended Lewis and Clark and North Central High Schools. He joined the Navy after graduation. He was a proud World War II veteran and he used his GI bill to attend the University of Washington where he was admitted to dental school. Upon graduation, he married his first wife, Mary, passed the state board dental test and established a practice in the Paulsen Building in Spokane where his father was a physician. He had two children, Allison and Bryce, with Mary. In 1993, he met Dr. Cora Joan Stone and soon married. In 2000, Wesley and Cora adopted and brought home a toddler (Kelly) from China. Wesley practiced dentistry for 52 years and enjoyed his numerous patients, many of whom became close family friends. After retiring, the family moved to Coeur d'Alene where he had spent many memorable summers as a youth. His retirement included reunions with his cousins, social events with the Caria, Guarisco, Roland, and Ernst families and visiting with his many friends. He also loved showing off his backyard to his nephew, Craig (Jennifer) MacLachlan. His favorite pastimes were playing with his pets (Cricket, Kevin, Canela) and loving Kelly and Cora. Wesley's faith in God was ever present. And now his twinkling eyes, smile and laughter are being enjoying by his Savior. Wesley is survived by his wife, Cora Stone of 28 years; son, Bryce Stone (Leroy Monat) of Flint, MI; two daughters, Kelly Lee Stone of CDA, ID and Allison Phillips (Mark) of Phoenix, AZ; three granddaughters and three nephews. In honor of Wesley's life, donations may be sent to Kootenai Humane Society at 11650 North Ramsey Road, Hayden ID 83835 or on their website @ www.kootenaihumane.org A memorial service and reception will be held in loving memory of Wesley this summer.

Looking for an address to send a Christmas card, I came across this notice.....Shock.....sadness....We can only say .... "OUR FAMILY LOVED DR STONE AND CORA"!!! So loving, so generous, so capable as couple and dentist. We have told the story many, many times of how they brought Kelley into their lives and enriched all of us with their love. You have been missed, Dr Stone, and will continue to live on in our hearts. Cora - we send you, Kelley, Allison, and Bryce our sincere condolences.

Peace to all the family. Just recently learned of Dr.Stone’s passing from the Whitman College magazine. I loved going to the dentist while living in Spokane and hearing all his fun stories about Whitman (I too attended Whitman). Blessed to have been a neighbor, patient & friend of his. His life touched so many with such joy and genuine care. He will be missed and remembered with love.

So sad to hear of Dr Stone’s passing. He was a wonderful dentist, so kindhearted. I loved the fact that my daughter Elena and I got Wesley and Cora together; he was so crazy about Cora, as she was him. Such a nice man. So sorry to all of Dr. Stone’s family.

Dr. Stone was my dentist for over 40 years, from my childhood until he retired. My brother, Bill Small, and my parents (Robert and Eleanor Small) were also patients. Dr. Stone always expressed interest in what I was doing and asked about my family. After I retired from teaching biology at Rogers High School, I continued to substitute teach at Spokane high schools. I saw Kelly several times in her high school classes after Dr. Stone retired. She was an exceptional student and I have wondered where she went to college and how she is doing. I know you must miss your dad very much. What a blessing to have been raised by such a warm, intelligent, fun-loving man.

One always came away with an uplifting experience when meeting Dr. Stone.
I don’t think he ever expressed a negative thought or word.
Always a giant smile and a friendly greeting.
He always wanted to know what was new in my life.
Whether it was attending a monotonous (for the parents) swim meet with us, or fixing our teeth, Dr. Stone offered up loving and thoughtful encouragement to all he encountered.
Dr. Stone will always be remembered kindly.

My family became patients of Dr. Stone in the early 1950s.
He was a strong supporter of the University of Washington
and the dental profession. Because of his enthusiasm I went
to the U.W. and also graduated in dentistry. I have always admired
his energy.
