David SMITH Obituary

News Death Notice

SMITH, David L. 68, of South Charleston passed away August 21, 2013 in the Miami Valley Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on July 11, 1945, the son of the late Guy and Frances Smith. Dave graduated from the first class at Wright State University. He had been a tax preparer for many years and enjoyed managing the family farm. He proudly served the Southeastern Local Schools as a school board member and was a big fan of high school girls' basketball. Dave was also a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed watching harness racing at Scioto Downs and most especially The Little Brown Jug in Delaware. Along with the unconditional care of his late mother and a few special friends, Dave has had many friends and caregivers over the years. We know he would want to thank them all for the care and kindness they have given him especially the folks at Senior Helpers. At Dave's request there will be no services. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leesburg. Memorial contributions are requested to People Helping People, Madison Township E.M.S. or the South Charleston United Methodist Church. RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME has been entrusted with the final arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com

I will always miss but most of all cherish & treasure what may seem to be the silliest yet quite simplest thing ever that Dave taught me & that is how to properly vacuum North,South,East,West. That has stuck with me since the time I started working for him at 11yo & I still find myself doing it (I´m 37 now) & I´ve even taught my children to do it that way. The type of mentor and boss that Dave was amazing and you couldn´t ask for a better one! When I found out he passed I was broken hearted but relieved at the same time because I know that he is exactly where he wanted to be with his parents in Glory! Thank you for all you taught me Dave!

I remember back when you use to take me rides on the back of your wheel-chair. Friday nights after the football games when all the guys would end up at your house for pizza and listen to Beatle songs which you made me sing! I remember one of your friends carved in a tree in front of your house DS & LV. I think I was 5-6 years old then. Such good memories we have shared thru-out the years. I no your in heaven running everywhere with God. RIP David Smith my good ole friend. My prayers & thoughts for David's family.

David was a gift that was treasured by Guy and Frannie. He really made the most of his life after his football accident . May he rest in peace with his mom and dad once again.
