George SHIELDS Obituary


News Death Notice

SHIELDS, George Edward 79, of Springfield, died Tuesday August 7, 2012 in his residence. He was born April 3, 1933 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Noble and Thelma (Self) Shields. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He coached baseball in the Moose and Possum Baseball Leagues. As a Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Radford, during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife Ruth Shields; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (John) Givhan of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Diane (Mike) Vanderstelt of Twin Lake, Michigan; son and daughter-in-law, James Edward (Kelly) Shields of Chesterfield, Michigan; three sisters, June (Dick) Lindsay of Springfield, Jean (Jim) Allen and Sandy Houchins of Dayton and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday August 11, 2012 with Pastor Jerry Stinger officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. You may express condolences to the family at www.littletonandrue.com
