News Death Notice
DUNMIRE, Jan Elaine (Recknagel) loving daughter, sister, and wife, 61, of Springfield, died at 9:48 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton following complications from a series of strokes. She was born January 1, 1952 in Springfield, the second daughter of Paul W. and Warda (McClaren) Recknagel. Jan graduated from Northeastern High School in 1970. For most of her professional career, she was employed in the medical field, having worked for Dr. Martin Cook and as the office manager for Dr. Thomas Ericksen for 10 years, retiring in 2003. In her youth, Jan worked as stage manager for Bozo the Clown at our local television station. Her loved ones describe Jan as sweet and funny, kind to all walks of life, a generous soul, and extraordinarily patient with her 'derelict husband'. She is survived by her father of Springfield; husband, Jeff Dunmire; sister, Lynn Louise (Recknagel) Wilson of Coppell, Texas; two step-daughters, Elizabeth C. Dunmire and Sarah A. Diltz; four beautiful grandchildren, Sydney, Nathan, Chloe, and Brady; and her faithful golden retriever, Gretchen. She was preceded in death by her beloved and adored mother and a brother, Kent Recknagel. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of Jan's life will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Allen Dietz officiating. A private committal service will be held in Ferncliff Cemetery. To Jan's Family: I only just learned of Jan's passing and am so very sorry to hear of the loss of such a truly wonderful person. I was fortunate to become one of Jan's high school friends and have the fondest of memories of time spent with Jan on double dates, slumber parties and summertime outings at Jan's pool with her and other friends. As one of Jan's Northeastern teachers. I am so grieved to read of her passing. I have great memories of the Class of 1970. She was smart, generous, kind and funny. I was fortunate to have her in class.
