News Death Notice
NEAR, Jody L. age 60 of Mt. Sterling died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at his residence. He battled with Multiple Myeloma for 5 years. He was born August 6, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a life long farmer, loving husband, father, and grandpa. Preceded in death by his father, John and son, Rob. He is survived by his wife, Annette (Butler); mother, Lina June (Near) Whiteside, Sister, Joy Miller, both of South Vienna; son, Rick Near, London; daughters, Amy (Todd) Justice, Stoutsville, Jodi (Brad) Downard, South Vienna; special niece, Leah (Greg) Moore, Clover, SC; niece & nephew, Brittney & Bryce Butler, Springfield; great nephews, Seth & Derek Moore; brother-in-law, Chuck (Kathy) Butler; grandchildren Aubrey & Wyatt Justice, Stoutsville, Taylor Downard, South Vienna, Kyle Near, Springfield, Korie & Brice Near, Springfield. Also surviving a long time companion, his dog Jessie; and a host of faithful, special friends. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Cemetery. Rev. Dortha Ross officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main St., Mt. Sterling, OH. 43143 from 4 8 p.m. Family suggest memorial contributions may be given to Loving Care Hospice P.O. Box 445 London, OH. 43140.

As a young girl, I stayed with Jody and his family for one night on their farm. He took me for a ride on a motorcycle through the country roads. I remember sitting with his wife and young daughter snapping green beans for dinner.Having lived in California and never experiencing the beauty and warmth of true country living. It was a moment that stayed with me for life. An example of how one person touches another persons life without even being aware of it. I have since moved to Indiana and hope to grasp a small
portion of the life Jody and his family showed me. May God Bless Him.
