John WEISGARBER Obituary

WEISGARBER, John W. Of Miamisburg, passed on peacefully at home on April 22, 2017. John was born on March 17, 1937 in Dover, Ohio to the late Leslie and Erma (Justice) Weisgarber. He was also preceded in death by his sister Janet Specht and his brother and best friend James Weisgarber. John was born and raised in Dover, Ohio until relocating to Miamisburg his senior year of high school, graduating from Miamisburg High School and attending Wittenberg University. He served in the Army National Guard and was employed by the Dayton Walther Corporation before operating an agency with Farmer's Insurance. He was also a long-time member of the Miamisburg Moose Lodge #1645. John was an original member of the "Rock-Its" dance band who received national recognition for one of their records that reached #19 on the music charts and was played on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. The band would later change their name to "The Decades" and continue performing live music in Miamisburg, Dayton and surrounding areas for over 40 years. John also enjoyed singing and being part of the Praise Team at Miamisburg Christian Church where he was a member for over 30 years. John is survived by his wife Kathy; daughter Gina (James) Coker and grandchildren Mia, Reese and Charlie of Atlanta; son John O'Neil; sisters Carol (Paul) Giannobile and Joyce (Don) Dummermuth of Dover; parents-in-law Henry & Patsy Weidner; brother-in-law Jesse Weidner; nieces Megan (Rob) Rockwell, Serenity Speck Weidner and Taylor Weidner; special friends Steve, Lori, Blake, & Wesley Birchmeier and Pat & Nicole Castoe; feline friends City Kitty & Delta; and numerous other beloved family and friends. Special thanks to the amazing people at Hospice of Dayton, namely Brooke, Jon, Latoya, Cathy, Linda, Emily, Rockie, Sara, Jessica, Robin, Mandi, and Amy. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, Ohio 45439 followed by a memorial service at the Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. In John's memory, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
