Dear Mrs. Flora,

I was at a gathering of Greenon friends this past Saturday, August 27th when I learned of Mr Flora's passing. I just wanted to tell you about the impact he had on my life. I had Mr. Flora in the 10th grade for Algebra II and again in the 12th grade for calculus. Though I wasn't always the best math student, I worked really hard and really enjoyed Mr. Flora's classes. He expected a lot of his students and because of that I worked extremely hard to do well. I am now in my 20th year of teaching math and in my 7th year of teaching Advanced Placement Calculus. I have Mr. Flora, in part, to thank for my chosen profession and for my love of math.

So sorry for your loss..
Sincerely,
Julie (Suwalski) Marshall, Class of 1988

I was very lucky to teach with Jim at Greenon High School, for quite a few years. I know he was one of the finest teachers on the staff, through the years he taught math, there. I know he will be missed by those who taught with him, by his many students who experienced Jim as a teacher, and most of all.....his family.

May he...Rest-In-Peace.

Dear Kay, My Mother and I were terribly saddened by the news that Jim had lost his battle with cancer. All the notes of tribute to Jim are so very well deserved. When you and he moved into "our" backyard we knew we had the most wonderful neighbors anyone could ask for - thank you for being such dear folks. I always felt so safe knowing you all were "watching our back"! In deepest sympathy we send these words...Jan and Laurel Campbell

Dear Kay and Family. I send our most sincere condolences from your family at The James. Indeed, our physicians, nurses, and staff share in your loss and reflect upon the privilege that we experienced in providing care for Jim over so many years. He faced his illness with bravery and quiet dignity that sets an example for all to follow. I am sure these same characteristics were in evidence throughout his career in education and impacted many young men and women in a positive fashion. Indeed a life worthy of celebration. We shared many wonderful discussions and conversations, smiles among the many challenges we faced along the way, and his passing leaves a void in our clinic schedule that will be filled by fond memories of a true gentleman.

Jim was my 7th and 8th grade math and science teacher 1962-1964. My 7th grade class was Jim’s first year of teaching. I learned a lot from him – not just math and science. I’m in my 60s now, but on a daily basis I still use the life lessons he taught. The family is very blessed to have Jim as a husband, father, brother, and grandfather – and I am confident that you all feel that blessing.
