Paul Scanlan Obituary


News Death Notice

SCANLAN, Paul E. 72, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 in the Miami Valley Hospital. He was born on February 1, 1938 in Springfield, the son of Carl and Jennie (Kirkpatrick) Scanlan. He served our country in the United States Navy from 1954-1958. Paul retired from the Springfield Waste Water Plant in 2002 and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Marilyn (Roller) Scanlan of New Carlisle, one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Scott McDonald of Springfield, two sons and daughters-in-law: Jeff and Julie Scanlan of New Carlisle, and Brian and Angie Scanlan of Urbana; eleven grandchildren: Brooke, Alex, Brittany, Cory, Ross, Brandon, Chad, Kiley, Drew, Chelsi, and Taylor; three great grandchildren: Jacob, Brielle, and Cole; four sisters: Marian Phares, Rita Price, Frances Stokes, and Joann Vance; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers-in-law: Bob Phares, Herb Price, Jack Stokes, and Paul Vance. He is also survived by extended family members: Robert and Barbara Roller, Shirley Roller, Joanne DeWine, and Carol McNeil. Extended members that preceded him in death are brothers-in-law: Dick Roller, Don DeWine, and Dick McNeil. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 205 West Lake Ave., New Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 701 East Columbia Street, Springfield, OH 45503. Paul was a kind and generous man who always tried to help those less fortunate. Marilyn and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Paul was a wonderful man. His love for his family was truly felt by all that knew him. His sense of humor I will always remember. He appreciated the funny side of life. I have memories I will always cherrish! May you all continue to have your wonderful memories that you can pull out anytime you need to remind you all of his love he had for you!
