Every time I drive past her memorial sign on I-70, I have always wondered. My heart and feelings reach to your family and loved ones. My brother-in-law in a Deputy in Darke Co.
I shall say a prayer each time I pass this sign.

I didn't know Officer Hopper in person, but you can know someone "by heart" when another is committed to doing good things for others. In that way, I knew her. Now that stretch of Interstate 70 bears her name: The Suzanne Hopper Memorial Highway, and I think of her every time my travels take me through Clark County, Ohio. Only this evening did I learn that Suzanne's husband, Matthew, rejoined her in Heaven in April 2014, and somehow, that knowledge comforts me. They are together again eternally! Even though many of their loved ones are still earthbound, they are with God in all His Joy!

Deputy Waughtel u helped make me who i am today. u told me in 1999 u had faith in me when i was on crack real bad. u told me if i ever wanted to use again to promise to contact u first. u always had a smile and a hug for me every time i saw u. I miss that so much. The poem i wrote "deputies are people too" u said u loved so well. i miss you. u sacrificed your life for people like me.

Deputy Hopper was my 5th grade D.A.R.E teacher. Her daughter Maddie is in my grade at Greenon and my heart goes out to her and her family. It is always sad to see someone die especially someone here to keep us safe. Nothing in this wicked world is permanent not even our worries. May Deputy Suzanne rest in peace forever more.

I wrote this poem for Deputy Hopper. I did the best I could. Rest in peace Deputy Hopper. You will never be forgotten!
Deputy Suzanne Whaughtel Hopper
You left this earth so sudden
no time to say goodbye
you left behind so many things
and we ask our Dear Lord 'why?'
You were an amazing person
you cared for everyone
you were a wonderful Deputy
you did a job well done.
You touched the lives of many
your memory will live on
you meant a lot to everyone
and we're all so sad your gone.
You helped so many people
you cared about us all
even the ones you didn't know
for them you took the fall.
We not only lost a Deputy
we lost a special friend
who was always there for us
until the very end.
We'll never forget your kindness
or your beautiful smile
or your calming gentle ways
you made everything worthwhile.
So until we meet again
we'll keep you in our hearts
and all the wonderful memories
that we shared from the start.
We'll miss you Deputy Hopper
A true hero you were born
we salute you one last time
for 'you' we will forever mourn.

Rest in peace dear friend. You are a wonderful person. Last week was one of the hardest weeks of our lives and many more weeks, months and years to come. We miss you but know that you are smiling down on us all and siting on the sholder of all those out there on the streets every day.
After the service last Friday as we were turning to walk back I looked to my right and there was the most beautiful sunset starting over the clouds and it was very calming to me as in a way of you letting us all know that you know how much pain we are in but that you are ok and will always be here with us all. We miss you Suzanne rest in peace my friend.

Just refelcting back on last week...wow what a hard week! I just want to Thank all of the Clark County Deputies, their families, our community, First Chrisitan Church, Littleton and Rue Funeral Home, Columbus, OH Law Enforcement, all the Law Enforcement Agencies from around the United States, and all those others that made the Tribute to Suzanne's life one the I will never forget.
As I was standing at the cementary on Friday, looking out over a sea of Uniformed Law Enforcement and the snow was coming down it was so beautiful just like Suzanne and the life she lived! It was so quiet...you didn't hear a sound. I am so proud to have been a part of this special tribute to Suzanne.
As a wife of a Deputy and a mother of 2 small children, this was so such a hard day. When Sheriff Kelly handed Suzanne's son the flag...I just broke down into tears! As did so many others.
And when the dispatch called out her final call to her badge# and there was no answer and the tone dropped...my heart dropped as well. It was something that I never want to hear ever again in my lifetime.
As we exited the cementary that day...a day that was so bitterly cold, windy, snowing....I got into Scott's cruiser...I noticed that the snow had stopped and the wind wasn't as strong....in the sky there was a burst of a little sunlight peeking through the clouds and I knew that Suzanne was home.
Rest In Peace Suzanne! God Bless You! You will never be forgotten!

I just can't find the words to say how very sorry I am for your loss. My heart goes out to the family and Deputy Hoppers law enforcement family It just sickens my stomach to think this awful act happened. I had an uncle and 2 cousins which all is from the same family, a father and 2 sons that were Deputy's.We all were proud of them but in the same sense worried for their safety. They put their lives on the line each and everyday for all of us. Since this evil act happened, I think about it everyday. I get up thinking of Deputy Hopper and go to bed thinking of her. So I think I speak for the whole communtity when I say that when you cry, we cry, when you hurt, we hurt. We had a beautiful angel on earth to protect us and we thank her so very much for her service. What a brave angel. For the department, every time you go on a call, remember Deputy Hopper still has your back from afar. She'll be the angel sitting on your shoulder as she rides along. My prayers and deepest deepest sympathy to you all. She has 1 last reward to recieve. It's from her heavenly father. RIP Deputy Hopper

What a tragic senseless loss for everyone in Clark county. Suzanne was taken too early from all of us. She was a bright spot in the lives of so many people. May God Bless her family and friends and co-workers in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. To her children, your mother was an Angel on Earth...you are to carry on her legacy and keep her memory alive in your hearts and lives everyday. May you find peace and comfort in those around you and know that you have your own Guardian Angel watching over you. We may never understand why this happened, but know that God has a plan for each of us and when our work here on Earth is done, He calls us Home. Suzanne has been called Home.

I can not tell you how I felt when I heard of your death. Yet when I looked into the eyes of Sherrif Ralph Underwood I felt as if I had knoen you a lifetime. As I prayed with him, I felt a peace come over us that assured me you were in a better place. Although this is true it still does not soften the fact you were taken so tragically. I pray for the family that the Lord will give them a peace that surpasses all understanding. I pray for healing in the name of Jesus. I pray that in her death people may realize the true light that she was. I pray that many may come to know Jesus. It is amazing how God has used you as a vessel to work through in so many lives. God bless you as you rest in the arms of God. I will see you soon Suzanne. It is there we will meet for the first time and for that I praise God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the Family of Deputy Hopper,
AT TIMES LIKE THESE YOU WILL SEE ONLY ONE SET OF FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW. THIS IS WHEN THE LORD IS NOW CARRYING YOU, AND KNOW THAT THOSE FOOTPRINTS BELONG TO HIM.
When you have lost something, that means you can't find it. You haven't lost a Deputy. You haven't lost a mother, or a wife or a sister. Why? Because we all know where Suzanne is. She is an Angel that God has chosen to relocate to Heaven.
May God give you the extra strength to except he has chosen to take your Angel to heaven with him.

I did not know Deputy Suzanne Waughtel Hopper but I knew other offices that did. I went to the funeral service and to the burial to show my support and found out first hand why she will be missed so much. The service was very moving (although I did not know her it was still extremely hard to fight back the tears especially at the burial where there was a last call on the radio – this is the saddest thing to hear for a law enforcement officer). Hats off to those who put the service together, Clark County, Columbus PD and all those who helped did an outstanding job and excelled at paying the ultimate tribute to such a fine public servant. Rest in Peace Suzanne Waughtel Hopper.

You have had such an impact on everyone young and old, near and far. I didnt know you well but my sister did. God bless your family and thank you for serving clark county.

Suzanne was my classmate and friend at Northwestern from elementary school through our '89 graduation. Her loss hasn't left my mind since learning the news last weekend, and I'm so very sad for her family, friends and colleagues. I'm honored to have a whimsical, funny, yet caring note from her in my high school yearbook, and I've read it numerous times this difficult week. I last spoke with Suzanne at our reunion in 1999, when she was telling me excitedly about her new job with the Clark County Sheriff. Even though she is no longer with us in this world, I hope everyone can take some comfort knowing that her strong, vibrant spirit will always live on.

Suzanne was truly an inspiration to all she knew and served. May we all learn from her example. May God be glorified through this tragedy; for heavan has gained an angle and we have lost a hero. If Suzanne didn't embody the love of Christ Jesus, then I don't know who does. For even Jesus came to serve, not to be served and Suzanne truly had a servants heart; with which she loved all she came into contact with.

My heart cannot fathom what you and your family must be going through. I know the only way you could make it through is your faith and the love you have in your hearts. I must admit, I cannot possibley imagine how you are feeling but we have an assurance that no one except God can give us. Your family is so blessed to have known and loved and to be family to someone like Deputy Hopper. May God continue to watch over each and everyone of you.
