David Torpey Obituary
David Gerard Torpey, 58, formerly of Stamford, CT, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Westerly, RI.
David was a resident of Stamford for 43 years. He attended Stamford schools. He also attended the Connecticut Police Academy and, after graduating, became a respected police officer in the Stamford Police Department. He served Stamford for 20 plus years with honor. He was proud to continue the legacy of public service following his grandfather as well as several uncles in law enforcement.
He lived in Westerly for the past several years, where he was fortunate to build local relationships with a number of people.
He is survived by; two older brothers, Edward and his wife Rachel of Southbury, CT and Mark and his wife Joanne of Bethel, CT; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are omitted. The private burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel, CT will be held at the convenience of the family. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in charge of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com

To the Torpey family, my deepest condolences in the passing of your brother, Dave. I met him in the Grand Union, around 1974. He had the best smile and as so many others have said, he cared so much for others. I remember how important policing was to him. Rest in peace, my friend.

I remember Dave from the first day we met in SCHS. He would do anything to help anyone in need. He was a true gentleman and gentle soul. Although his time has ended on earth I know he will never be forgotten. Rest well my friend!

To the Torpey family, I had the pleasure of Dave's friendship for nearly 40 years,dating back to his H.S. days.We meet through a mutual friend Wally. We had so many great memories but the one that stands out was our 1977 camping trip to the National Parks in the Rocky Mts.As many have already said Dave was a very religious man, had a kind soul and would do anything he could for you,He loved his Police work and took it very seriously. I went to high school with Dave and we became friends along with his close friend Ralph. As others have stated he was a religious, kind soul who was always concerned about others well being. May God bless Dave and his family.

Dave was a good man and a good Christian. I went to Stamford Catholic H.S. with him in the 1970's. He was a good man for whom I had the utmost of respect. God has called him home, he will be missed.

To Dave's family, I joined the PD the same day as Dave who was always quick to smile whenever I saw him, he was a lovely man. It truly saddened me when I found out he died. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I pray that God will ease your sorrow. May he be resting in peace.

I am so sorry to read of David's passing, I worked with him for many years, he was a gentleman and an excellent police officer who truly cared about Stamford and served honorably.Absolutely one of the most decent officers in the SPD.
